Ok it looks like there is plenty of interest in the GPZ - it will be sad to see it go after carting me and the girlfriend around Europe, but when you're broke and being nagged about bills what you gonna do.

Anyway my mind is already on my next bike. I want something bigger, with more grunt (not necessarily faster)

I'm over 25 and have 1 years no claims, insurance on the GPZ was £79, and having looked at a few other bikes it doesn't seem to go up too much above £350-£450.

I have been thinking about the usual mid-late 90s 600s. CBR600F, ZX6R F,G,J, SRAD (my missus is supprising comfortable on the back of one of these.

Other than I was thinking about the VFR750.

Basically i want something reasonably sporty but that I can still tour (reasonably) comfortably on.

I plan on buying in the winter. What sort of price can i expect to pay the mid-late 90's models of the above?

Also is there anything else you might recommend

my budget will be (hopefully) half that. So i'm looking at around £1500

I know zx6r f models are around that price, not sure on the others.

I checked out used bike guide but the prices on there are very optimistic to say the least

watch bikes on ebay to see what they go for

for touring, i think the vfr750 is your best bet, while its still a bit sporty

Especially given your budget, the VFR750 would be a nice bet. Its a great torquey bike and can be grabbed for a great price, I have seen lots of good condition Viffers with mid-amounts of mileage (50,000ish) go for around a grand.

I bought my VFR800Fi (1998 model with 18,000 miles on the clock) which was mint, for only £2000.

Well my search will consist of the following:

CBR600F, ZX6R ,G,J, SRAD, FJ1200, Thundercat, VFR750, TT600, zzr600

For fun:

R6, VFR400

Anything else similar that I should be looking at?

If you can deal with a slightly untidy (cosmetically challenged) bike then you might be surprised what you can get Zx6 j's for. I paid £1600 for mine last month and although the bodywork leaves a lot to be desired it is mechanically sound. To be honest I think I paid £100 more than I should have Wink

It is quite impressive what you can get for £1500 these days. Shop around on ebay, prices are getting lower by the day as this nasty weather carries on! Thumbs Up

I just picked up a ZX6R G2. I have done Europe on a Bandit and a Hornet and some touring is most certainly on the cards with this ninja, Im used to naked bikes so when you tuck in on this i can see many miles munched Wink

You could definitely get a ZX6R G for that sort of price, particularly now that it's the close of summer. ZX6R F's are ageing a bit, but if it's cared for, they make good bikes - mine's on 35k miles, i've done 15k miles since i bought it in march 07 for 1300 and it now needs its suspension doing (needed a new engine due to maintenance oversight on the air filter!). Expect all bikes in that price category to have been involved in a spill or an accident but that's part owning a bike. Needless to say, go on budget and comfort. I could have easily settled for ANY of the "ex-supersports-cum-sports-tourer 600's" but the ninja was the right bike at the right price at the right time. I don't regret getting the ZX6RF - it's proven to me that it's fast enough to mince it with the 1000cc boys and also fast enough to get me nicked.

You might also want to consider a Desmosedici.

I hear they're quite nippy.
