Just a quickie.

I booked my ferry arrangements yesterday to go away on Monday. I now need to make a change. It's £25 minimum for an amendment apparently, but it's only £24 to get a single ticket with sea france for the desired time I want to set off.

Can anyone see any problems with not taking my original set-off time with NorfolkLine and going out with sea france instead...?

Yeah, yeah, £1 saving and all that but I don't agree to paying amendment fee's - principle of the matter and all that. All of this because I want to get a cigarette socket adapter for the bike so it can power my gps...and theres nowhere nearby that sells them.

Delaying cus you want a cigarette adaptor for your bike? ,

Maplins sells the parts you need ,

https://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1056&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=cigarette&doy=31m8

cut the ends off solder or connect the ends to the battery using M7 solder tags add in an inline fuse and jobs a gud un , if you want to made it a bit more advanced stick a relay on it,

Or pay the £9 for a HG one

Or stop in a town with a HG on the way out and fix it to the bike takes 5 minutes and a screw driver.

If you were anywhere near manchester you could have mine off the CBR

Never knew HG do them, I'll phone them now.

Maplins online stocks them, their (shite) shops don't tend to.

I don't know where you live but Towsure sell them for less than £9, same as the waterproof covered maplins ones which are good. If not nearly all caravan shops sell them, again probably cheaper than HG.

Last summer we booked the cheapest non amendable tickets with speed ferries at £15 each one way. At that price we thought it worth the risk. In 10 years travelling have never missed a ferry but guess what.....nasty accident, a multiple pile up in fog, on the A20 & we were kept there for nearly three hours by the police. At the ferry port were told we could by a new ticket there for £40 but it was cheaper on-line. Rang son who booked us two single tickets on the next ferry at £19 each. Ok we lost money but it wasn't too bad. Next year we plan on heading to MacDonalds, Dover for the free wifi, with the laptop & book onto the next available ferry. There's enough ferries out of Dover so why book months in advance?

So if you miss your ferry time you cannot go on a later ferry ? or do you have to buy a new ticket.
Buying another ticket would be so no good esp after you paid up front in the first place for a ticket.

We had to buy a new ticket as the original wasn't transferab;e. With Speed Ferries if you want ta ticket you can alter you have to pay about £10 more for it to start with! As I said at £15 a ticket we thought it worth taking the chance. I think on the Chunnel and other ferries you can get put on the next available ferry without buying a new ticket but there may be an admin fee. We happen to like Speed ferries cos its a quicker crossing than the others ( apart from the train) and generally cheaper.

I used Norfolkline and was able to use a prebooked ticket to get onto an earlier boat on the way back. We also nearly missed our outgoing boat due to horrendous jams all the way down the M40/M25 and M20, getting the next boat didn't appear to be a problem but we were just in time to jump on the one we booked. They're rarely full, especially for bikes so can't imagine it being a problem usually, and there's a ferry every hour.

Yep, Norfolkline seem pretty decent. I had a prebooked ticket but came back a day early. I rang them up beforehand and they sorted out a new ferry time for me and a mate on bkes, no problem and no extra fees.

Thumbs Up
