Im thinking of getting a new car

I have choices, rather like the cartoon angel and devil whispering opinions in my ear.

Angel
Toyota Aygo (C1 107 etc etc)
Stupidly cheap to run, massive MPG and group 1 insurance
But id quite like to drive round Europe next year and probably do the Nurburgring and an aygo just wouldnt feel ample and the fact that im also 21 with lots of disposable cash means that i have the rest of my life to get a slower cheaper more econmical car, then comes the Devils point of view.

Devil
First one is the MX5 1.8, a bargainous price to buy used MK2.5 and cheap insurance, but then you have the 'hair dresser' jokes, not that it bothers me to a massive degree more of the fact it doesnt have that extra punch of bhp under the bonnet and its only a 2 seater.

Mazdas RX8, exellent value car brilliant insurance for my age, brilliant design 4 seater coupe with good standard equipment and a 190 or 230bhp rotary under the bonnet only let down by its absolutly HIDIOUS fuel consumption.
But being a sports coupe, one must expect high mpg right ?, well many people report getting from 16-24 mpg on the average cycle and they actuall have the 300 mile challenge on the owners club forum as its quite hard to get 300 miles to a full tank of about 51 litres.

Nissan 350Z still can be had quite cheapish, has better mpg than the RX8 and quite a bit more power, however group 20 insurance and the higher price tag means is it worth 2000 more than an RX8.

What are you're opinions, also suggestions ?

Obviously i will be buying used with a budget of about 6000, but would pay quite a bit more for that 'something' extra.

Personally i woyld go for the 350z. Im not a fan of the rx8's looks, and the fuel consumption would put me - it expensive enough these days running a td focus, let alone one of those.
Go for the 350z Thumbs Up

Probably when you are 12 yes Razz about 700 quid comp

I do like the 350z, but they are quite expensive to buy, and they dont tickle my prostate quite like the RX8 does in that respect, it mixes practicality with sports couple.

Of coure if the 350z were not 2k more id snap one up but i dont believe it to be so special, but ill see what bargains are around at the time of buying.

Power is overrated. You learnt a lot from your 400, think of the MX5 as the same sort of thing, a car you can rag and learn a lot about without it trying to kill you. Much.

Group 20 insurance will suck balls, it's what put me off the S2000.

The rex might have a back seat, but it's gonna chew fuel like a powerstation so you'll never actually drive it anywhere.

Unleash your inner gaylord, you know it makes sense. Cool

wanna swap the RSVR with the MX5 for a weekend Smile

also am in the process of booking a test drive on the MX5 and id hopefully blag the rx8 to see if its worth the money for the extra 12 odd mpg and 90bhp and rear seats.

I'd love an 350z in bronze colour. How much are they now?

What about an MR2 turbo?

I tried that when i insured the MR2 tubby, nobody wants to insure a 21 year old on a car for a week, specially an MR2.

I had to addmyself on his own insurance for 1 week, which was a modest 30 quid FC, you may or may not want to do this Razz

Ridiculous insurace due to being import only, my brother has one, which i drive regularly when i want car fun.

its very nice, but just a bit old and rattly and not very safe, ive had the arse end out twice now.
Marjay was right about the rear suspention on them and big wheels, as soon as that turbo spools it kicks out, in the dry.

How on earth can you get insurance for 700quid? It would cost me more than that to insure my car!

Try a company like admiral

first of all do a quote including yourself only

mine came out at about 1000 quid

then add your mum

890

then add your dad

700ish

regardless of wether they will drive the car, its not illegal to add them (i think) and it makes it a FUCK load cheaper
granted this is the 190 couple not the 230 but thats not much more.

That's the one thing that worries me about it being RWD & having a turbo, thinking of buying one but keep on being put off by the spinning out story's. Razz

How practical do you want it to be? My Golf GT has plenty of, go, handles well, faster than a MX5 round the track and gives 45mpg at the worst!

Hyundai Couple = FWD = crap

Z3 = butt ugly

the TT was a possibily for a while, but there buying price and insurance put me off mainly because jumped up chavs buy them and write them off.
But still a possibilty if i can get a bargain (bloody overpriced audis)

But jay your GT is a Golf and also they are still qutie expensive to buy.

the credit crunch has definatly but some once slightly out of reach coupe cars very affordable, i want to take advantage.

But i wouldnt say no to a test drive in yours, only ever driven RM diesel vans.

What about a Celica? Loads of boot space, too.

You could buy my Mazda 323f for £2000 and save yourself £4000.

Ah well, some people don't know a bit of luck when it comes to them. Your loss, kiddah.

What about an MGF, had a look at them myself earlier, when Toby posted about MX5's... didn't realise how cheap you can pick one of them up. Or Ford Cougar. If I had 6k it would 100% be the RX8 and balls to the MPG. You only live once.

If someone would like to give me the extra few dosen grand for those cars feel free.

So bendy the MX5 Wink

I think you are right about the Rx8 Harold, its near the top of my list of priorities.

and about the MGF, i looked into it also but its still and old design, it never really worked in the first place unlike the MX5 and lack that zoom zoom factor of the mx5, but i have to agree the price did temp me, the badge put me off.
