My dad would like to sell his Honda C50 which he has owned since 1981.

Its a 1971 in red and white. It was last used on the road in 1986 and has been dry stored since then. Mileage is only 3960.

He cleans it thoroughly once a year and runs the engine. I saw it for myself running yesterday. Bought back some old memories for me. I was only about 8 years old(I am now 34) but I still remember him returning from work on his bike. He would stop on the drive and I would jump on the back for the 10 yard ride into the garage.

It has the windshield and the top box fitted. It obviously doesn't have an mot but it is in excellent condition. I believe it is tax exmpt now as it is pre 1973 but need to confirm this.

He has asked me to advertise it but I don't have clue where the best place to start is.

Also we have no idea how much it is worth. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is it worth getting it mot'd?

I asked him for the V5 and he dug out an old style registration document. I have told him to get in touch with DVLA to a get a new style one.

Here are some pictures anyway.

If you can retain the number as transferable you may get a few extra bob for the bike. It will be taxed as a historic vehical if pre 73 and thus be duty rated at £0.00, however if you fail to tax or SORN it they still fine you in real money.

Thats why I have told him to get in touch with DVLA to get a new style V5 as I don't believe that they know this bike even still exists. Once he gets the new V5 he can then at least declare it SORN.

Looks like it has started to rot in the rear mudguard section, I welded quite a few back up when I was a kid.

Hi, I reckon your Dad should get a good price for the Honda C50.
These bikes have always been popular and the Honda C50 70 90 are the biggest selling bikes of all time.
It is all original, excellent condition and has had very little use so it should be very collectable.
I would expect it to sell for at least £1000.

might be worth sticking it on the forum at https://www.innova125.com/ which despite the name seems to have a lot of cub fans on it.

I was going to say that too.

Have a good look up under the mudguard. If it's rusty under there or there are any gaps where the frame is pressed together, flog it as a runner that might need some work. If it's solid, take it for an MOT.

Most bike MOT testers still know to look for rust up under there, it's about the only thing they can find to fail one on. That and loose spokes.

It's easily fixed but it'd mean welding it up then re-painting the rear part of the frame.

Bike sold on ebay on Tuesday.

Eventually went for £1425!

Surpassed all our expectations. Went to a chap from Ireland. As it turned out the top 6 bidders were all from Ireland.
