Because they only had 39 test centres working for the whole of the UK!
The DVLA thought at least 70 odd would be required for it to work. ____________________ My Flickr |

Good news for me. It's not just the extra £20, it's also that i don't have the added burden of having more things to fail on.

Hmmm, 17th birthday on 10th March. I plan to start a 3-4 day course on my birthday. Will I be on the new test or just miss out? ____________________ ***Previous: GPR50, FZ750 *** Current: Monkey bike, yella SV 650 ***

Yes you can get a provisional at 16 but no theory is needed for a moped, you dont get your bigger bike entitlement till 17, so then thats when you can take theory or thats the impression i get from the website. |
There is such thing as a moped practical test, which enables you to ride without L-Plates and carry a passenger. It still has a 50cc limit. To take this test, you must be 16 or over, and as with every other practical test need a valid theory test. Now, the moped and motorcycle theory test are the same. Meaning no further theory test is needed when taking either the A1, A2 or DAS tests.
All this is true. But the proof being i took my theory at 16, and then passed my motorcycle A2 practical test in August when i was 17. |

if that's the case then i was wrong. sorry |
that is indeed the case. the motorbike theory test can be taken at 16 the car one you must be 17 for ... i think it's to do with the age of being able to ride/drive - so as asid, moped/small bike at 16 means you should be able to do your theory (and so can) but 17 for a car so you must be 17 - i know this is correct because i did my theory test september or october last year (when i was 16 ) for the bike.
anyway, glad to hear that the test is dealyed - it's stupid brining in the new things though - even 90% of instructors failed the new style test! what hope do beginners have?!
i'll admit, things need to change - but i dont think this is the right way forward. one thing i feel should be changed is the way you learn and take tests, for example- you should not be able to go out to drive a car (or even bike) without passing a theory test first...that's on L platse too! so all beginner car drivers would need to sit a theory before they would be allowed to begin learning to drive a car, this would make it easier for the students too - as knowing the signs and rules of the road is important before you drive on the road - not just before you take your test! the whole test system should be looked at and thought about a bit more - but this new test is no the way things should be going. harder training isnt what we need, it needs to be better training - maybe a 2 hour ride for your test - any of us can ride proplery for 30 mins ...2 hour son a mix of town and open country roads would be a much better assesment of your riding - but dont expect life savers all of the way around the country roads - just good observations when most needed. |
