Don't give me grief, I knew the risks, I got caught and I'm taking responsibility.

What I do want to do is make this infromation available to anyone worried about similar situations and to people saying "CATS WILL DIE NOW !!! " etc.

Pulled onto the slip road of the motorway pretty 'swiftly' ionly to find police sat on it, braked a bit (as you do when ever you see police unexpectedly) carried on past down the road a few miles in the slow lane all the way, they pulled past in the fast lane(Guess they thought I was gonna bean it) then saw me and pulled me over.

Roadside
"You've declared your bike as off the road sir"
ME:" That's right, I'm not going to mess you around, it's not taxed at present"
"ok come and sit in the car a minute will you"
In the car
"I see it's insured on our systems, is that via direct debit?"
ME: Yes it's insured with hastings and direct debit yeah"
The other officers now outside the car going over my bike
He checked my address, and other details pnc etc
He wrote out a £60 fine explained the situation and how long I have to pay, wether I want to escalate it to court and how to pay etc. He also said it's no points on your license and didn't say ANYTHING about it voiding insurance as some people think.

I said I appreciate what you guys are doing and it's nothing against the law or you guys personally I just havn't got round to doing it yet, mainly money situation (moved jobs so things are messy at mo) (and some lazieness to tbh, but didn't say that)

Officer was quite reasonable and seemed more concerned i wasn't wearing decent gear more than anything.

They then let me on my way.

Hard to avoid paying road tax these days. All the police cars have those little cameras now. At least you didn't get your bike taken off you.

Lucky ish escpae... but having no tax /does/ void your insurance if you have an accident, they will check all your details, see you have no tax then they will use that as an excuse to void your insurance to save them paying out. It's only really a big problem if you have an accident, I'm not 100% sure if the police will do you for no insurance on a random stop.. but in an accident you're likely to get voided insurance.

pretty much how i was done apart from i said i paid for mine, thn he checked and said no, so i said i paid for a fine through the dvla, and he said well you havent paid extra for the tax so it's another fine.

i think i paid out 80 quid from dvla and 60 quid police guy. the thing that pissed me off was that my road tax is 15 quid. it did make me learn that you can do it on the net.

Any evidence for this - I can't see that they would get away with it if they tried it on and you stood up to it.

I know, a gamble whilst things were tight, I lost.
I'm now paying out double for the priviledge.

He said to me it's no points on your license. Wether that was just for my 'case' or just no points on your license for tax evasion is obviously open to debate.

bollocks, how would you take a car to an mot with valid insurance if you had no tax ....

i used to ride all my bikes without tax ( don't argue about me not taxing, i'm not interested) and i've never had a hint of trouble where insurance was concerned...

you don't even need mot for your insurance to be valid, all the insurance companies require is that the vehicle is roadworthy ....

mot and tax are government things, tax does not in any way have anything to do with kitten killing or roadworthiness

Hmmm, how would they know it's roadworthy? Oooo, tough one. If only there were some form of test the vehicle could have...

you need all your docs if you make an insurance claim though! and if you use "i can't find them" as an excuse then they contact VOSA and DVLA on your behalf, not sure of the outcome if you havn't got any T&T but wouldn't like to chance it.

No you don't need all your docs including tax.
If it's a total-loss claim on your own vehicle you do (providing you're not buying it back), but otherwise I've never heard of it being requested in the case of an insurance claim.

Well aint you the fucking rebel. It's tosspots liike you that give ammo to the gubbermint to tar us all with a big shitty brush.

https://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/statistics/datatablespublications/vehicles/excisedutyevasion/

Notwithstanding the fact they later had to backtrack and admit the figures were utter bollocks, by then the media had picked this up and we were tax-doging scum who prevented schools 'n 'ospitals getting the funds they so badly need.

It's people that believe lack of tax is an important issue who are the problem, to my mind.

NO IT DOESN'T. I dont know who started this myth but tax does not affect your insurance.

Check your insurance policy and see if it even mentions road tax!

I don't know where the myth of 'no tax voiding your insurance' came from.

No MOT _can_ do in certain cases, but not tax.

Having no mot doesn't automatically void your policy either depending on the claim but it will have a big effect on the amount you get paid out for it.

Nope, yours is about £63-66. Beauty of owning something more than 600cc. Laughing
