how far would you be willing to travel to get your hands on that dream bike? ive been looking around recently for my next bike and as im quite lazy and get lost everyday on my way to work i would go no further than about 50 miles(unless it was a real bargain). what about you lot?

If it was my dream bike,and a sweet price,i`d go to wherever it was.
Other side of the country if neccasary.The only place i wouldn`t travel to is abroad.
P.S..you don`t get lost with a satnav (or a map)

few months ago i bought my R6 i got 1st offer for it and it had to be a quick sale within 3 days. i got offered it £600 cheaper than the going price so im from the west midlands and went down to london. left mine at 7pm got home at 1am  
worth every mile and minute |

i think distance is not realy an issue on the getting home part of the trip as you would probably be riding the bike back, its just the inconvenience of getting a mate/relative to take you there, or as a last resort public transport  . It would be a real bummer if you travel 200 miles to find the guys lied to you and the bike is nothing like what was described or shown in the pics.

I'm going to look at a bike tomorrow which is 67 miles from me.
Personally i would set and upper limit of around 100 miles but as all ready said it depends on the bike and the bargain.

Och, if its worth it go for it... it can be an adventure... here is my post from last November when I went down to London for my gixer. For what its worth, I don't recommend such a trip in the dead of winter!! lol
Worked out around 460 miles, about 1050 mile round trip.

The M6 toll - I sneakily did 80ish here and was being left behind by everything yet again!! WTF!
Tiredness was seriously kicking in by now, and by Manchester I was having to stop at every single service station for a coffee and a bar of chocolate. If I hadnt had a work team building organised in Edinburgh for Friday, I would have gave up and stayed at a travel lodge.
Cant remember the big service way station with the walkway over the motorway, but I stopped there for some dinner at about 8, and it was seriously cold.
By the time I was past Blackpool exit I was getting fed up with being passed by everything, so decided to become a sheep. I sped. A little.
This continued for hours, stop at station for 20 minutes, burst to next one, stop, burst, stop, burst... no fun at all.
The wind picked up also which was like being hit by pillows either side.
My feet were numb, my elbows were shaking, my hands were dying ...ended up doing mini-push ups on the bars...
By the time I was at Kendall the temperature had seriously dropped into the minus range, and the bike was squirming all over the road so as it was pretty empty, and I was determined now to get home and not drop her ...it was a 55 in the inside lane, hazards on and feet down job.
At one station, I really had to go pee. Made it to loo, only to discover shrinkage. OF EPIC PROPORTIONS!! I swear, I had no visible c0ck at all! really worried! Can laugh now but at the time... 
The borders was really a worry, and had to drop the speed to 25, 30 at times... dangerous on a motorway yes, but it was completely empty. One service station I was in, the temp gauge read -9 outside. If its this cold all the time there, I dont envy those of you who live here!! Brrrr! WTF must have been the windchill!
Anyhow, eventually made it to the last cut off on the motorway, sweeping bend, I come round and see a big wet patch.
Relax a bit, thinking, if its warm enough to be that wet, its not cold enough to be icey. Wrong. As I got within 10 feet, my lights caught the ice and wahey, BIG BIG fishtail, back wheel starts to come round and then snaps back. It was down to nothing but sheer luck I wasnt catapulted off.
So from Cumbernauld (Irn Bru factory for anyone that knows it), I rode home at 9mph, colder than an eskimos testies, bottle completely gone.
Got back to my garage, and had to move the old bike which I barely had the strength for and side by side they sit snuggling. At 2.33am.
So please, anyone ever says about doing this. HIT THEM.
Completely underestimated this. Nothing but determination and luck got me home, and I was an idiot to have continued. I'll never do it again.
(well, in Winter.  )
Oh yeah, here she is...

You deserve hero-status for that haul....
longest i`ve done was a manchester-wales-manchester run at night and i totally sympathise with how you felt on the motorways.
It was one of the worst biking experiences i`ve had so far.
Freezing winds,rain,tiredness and darkness... is seriously bad news.
Must be even worse on a bike you`re not used to.
Respect.

Current average is 459.27 miles (one way.)
Suppose that's what come of living in the north of Scotland. Having a lot of great roads, very few traffic cars, no choppers and the nearest fixed speed camera being 60ish miles on a road I never travel makes up for it.
Would travel anywhere in Europe if I wanted it enough.
