Hi all,

Just wondering, you know how you can get injection system cleaners for car fuel injection systems, can you get similar for carbs on motorbikes? Apologies if that question was totally thick Laughing

Redex will do the job but I've never really had spectacular results from it. I generally use it as a preventative measure rather than a fix for any carb ills. There is another item which is good for old two strokes called a 'power pill' that cleans and decokes parts. I've used one once on my TZR250 and it was OK, seemed to help a bit but it could have been placebo effect.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Power Pill? Does it have a shop friendly name? I think I'll try and run some Redex through the fuel system too. I generally use STP or Redex in my car to keep the fuel system clean.

Nope, I just searched for it on Ebay and got various male virility tablets... I don't think they are available in the UK any more.

Bro you can go to halfords and pick up carb cleaner by a company called car plan. Truss me its top stuff.

Two ways to clean:

You can remove the air fliter element and run the engine and then spray the carb cleaner while the engine is running but you will need to increase the rev as the cleaner will make the engine stall as it cleans.

OR

Remove the carb from engine and then give it a spray with the cleaner.

If possible to both 1st remove carb and clean and then clean with carb on as the cleaner will feed into the carbs and give a nice clean.

Spraying carb cleaner into the intake won't do much since the places you need it most are in the float bowls, jets and emulsion tubes.

Sorry guys/gals,

I'm just after a decent fuel additive that you run thorugh the fuel system with the petrol like in injeciton cars...fill your tank add STP or Redex and let it do it's magic or not.
I plan on stripping the carb and cleaning it thoroughly but afterwards would like to keep on top of it by running an additive through the fuel system every so often to keep it tip top Thumbs Up

Appreciate the advice guys

I used Silkolene Pro-boost whenever I had a scooter, it's meant to raise the octane of your fuel and keep stuff clean. Was recommended it but I'm not exactly sure if it was worth it.

I use a thing called Petrol, full of detergents to clean the carbs/injectors, usually fill the tank with it for best results. Wink

Pro-boost is a good cleaner because it probably contains Toluene. Nasty stuff that eats through many plastics (and skin) but great for cleaning your carb internals or injector system.

best thing i used is acetone available from ur local chemist, abot 2 quid for a small bottle mix in with a full tank of petrol and just watch it blow all the shite out of the emulsion jets and float bowls, works a treat, it might take a couple of uses, but i found it to be better than any other treatment i tried.
