Mine has a crack and a chip, and I really don't want to replace them (because it doesn't effect my use of the mirrors at all and its 20-30 quid I'd rather spend on wine) - if i removed the mirrors, would I fail (with a bike design with mirrors~?)

Thanks.

You should pass no problems, though with MOT testers there are many many grey areas, so try to find the text corresponding to it in the MOT guidelines.

generally i go with the old rule "if it has them fitted they have to work/not be broken"

try it, if it doesn't pass best to buy a supercheap one from a motorparts place and stick it on for teporary so it'll pass Thumbs Up

Just take them both off for the test, then it'll pass.

Mirrors are not part of the bike MOT test.

If they are dangerous/sharp edges or foul any working parts though, it will fail.

If in doubt, remove them. Thumbs Up

No of course not, my DR never has them fitted and my XRV has passed an MOT with none before when I removed them for a big off road trip.

I didn't have mirrors for my bike test either.

I didnt have mirrors on my SV for a good 6 months, actually improved my riding to be honest as the mirrors are not there to rely on, making me check every single time.

Only has to have mirrors if being used for the bike test.

Other than that as said, just gotta be no sharp edges.

If mirrors are present then they have to conform, same as speedos etc, etc.

If they are not present and they should be under construction and use then the MOTer can issue an enforcement notice demanding you fit them to comply. However they cannot fail your MOT because of it.

Most MOTers cannot be arsed to do actually do that though.

At least that is my understanding of the law and its application.
