Ever since I can remember I've had trouble sleeping (now for example, out till 4 in the morning yesterday, up at 9 which is odd for me, and I'm not in the slightest bit tired) It gets so bad that I end up sleeping stupid patterns, stuff like having four 10 hour long sleeps and one stupidly long 16 hour sleep/laze about in bed during a week (not necassarially at night time) and not sleeping at all for the other two nights.

I think the solution is pretty obvious, get in bed at 10 tommorow with no distractions, and get up with the alarm at 7, then do the same untill I've managed to get a normal bodyclock. I tend to try this every couple of months btw, and it works for half a week, and I feel great and fresh and generally better while it's working, but then I'll have an essey, or a night out, or just wont be able to sleep for some reason, and it throws the whole thing out of whack again.

So I'm thinking sleeping tablets. I know a fair few of you have similar things to me (I've seen you online at 5 in the morning several times in a week Razz not naming names) and I'm wandering if anyone tried them, also what really do they do? if you normally sleep for 10 hours will they increase that? And are there any drowsy effects once you wake up, and do they make you a heavier sleeper.

Annoying thing about it is, I had a lovely sleep pattern over summer for about 3 months when I was working on a farm, bed at 11, 7 hours kip, then off to work, few hours hard manual labour, few hours slacking or driving tractors and back home feeling tired enough to actually sleep. Uni is too fucking easy to make me owt but a useless lazy blob Evil or Very Mad

Right, I'm off for a walk Very Happy

Some antihystamines, i.e. hayfever type tablets, can make you drowsy. These work for me.

There's also the Nytol herbal tablets, although they take a little while to build up in your system to work effectively.

Thumbs Up

I agree with map.

If I can't sleep I'take a Piriton. Half an hour later and I'm struggling to stay awake.

I reckon that's your answer - you're not actually properly tired, as when you were, you slept really well.

I'm similar in that the less I do the less I feel like doing and I can get quite lethargic and low. If I get myself into a routine with getting up at a set time with things to do, I'm loads better. I found sleeping pills made me worse as I just felt groggy all day. If you can bear to go with the exercise / fresh air route I'd think that was best, as somehow you need to get yourself physically tired and brain tired in order to get a good night's sleep.

Make a plan!! Thumbs Up

Thanks for the different tablet/herby suggestions, I hadn't thought of asking for specific tablet recomendations, no doubt I'd be lost in the chemist if I go to buy some Thumbs Up

Tonka, good suggestions ta. And youve made me realise that I literally do nothing vaguely physical at the moment, I might try starting to walk to uni rather than ride and stuff like that, start small and get more energetic. Unfortunate thing is, I have no money at all at the moment, so I'm eating absolute rubbish, which probably isn't helping Sad

Nytol herbal do the job, I used em when I was struggling to sleep at uni, they really did the job, the only problem being it was difficult to get up in the mornings.

My gf actually passed out through being ill one morning and i just couldnt wake up, she ended up coming round and having a barney at me still being asleep Laughing

Night nurse liquid will probably knock you out - tis 20% proof along with the other stuff in it.

Antihistamines as people said. I find they knock me out for exactly 6 hours, then I wake up straight away, full awake.
Then I go back to sleep for a couple of hours. My bed is warmer than the outside world.

If you go to a doc you'll get prescribed zopiclone, but I wouldn't recommend it. Very addictive, very fast. You shouldn't take them for more than 3 days in a row if you can avoid it, with a good week off them in between.

'Proper' Nytol (ie. not the herbal stuff) works for me maybe 1 time in 4. Herbal has no effect whatsoever but then I can take 4 antihistamines and still be wandering around grumbling about them not working.

I think the physical exercise and a semblence of routine is the best solution really.

I can agree with that.

The stuff works fantastically, although I did get mildly addicted to the stuff, so now I stick to working 12 hours a day to make me tired enough to sleep. Laughing

Cheers

I agree. It's one of the active ingredient to Nytol Herbal. Although Nytol is more for calming the body rather then sedateing. But i have always used valerian based herbal remedys since i get the other problem of getting too tired to sleep.

'Proper' Nytol is a type of antihistamine and works well for me.

Herbal ones do nothing.

A carefully time spliff also does the job.

Hmmm, bit worried about people saying you still feel drowsy in the morning from tablets, I'm really really not a morning person as it is. As for herbal smokables, tried that last year a few days a week, found it just made me even worse, went to sleep fine, but didnt get up, and I got really drowsy and forgetfull.

So I guess it's the hard way, bit of exercise and routine, fortunatley I have some half decent food in the house at the moment, wheras last week I was eating soup and potatoes Very Happy

Cheers for the replies, will get round to Karma ing you all when I can be arsed Thumbs Up

For Nytol and Weed I find it helps with both to 'tune' both how much you take and when; try taking both a while before you go to bed and I find it helps the drwosyness in the morning. Of course take it too early and you may find yourself waking up too early.

Waking up too early isn't a bad thing for me. I'd be happy to wake up at 5 if I could.
