I'm selling my cb250rs because I need a works vehicle and have been offered a Vauxhall Astra Diesel in mint condition, one owner who's given up driving, 67k miles, fsh etc etc etc for £200. Really can't turn it down tbh. However...I'm hoping to buy another bike next summer and will be delving back into the market. Considering I shall be using it purely for fun and weekend use only I am going for a 2 stroke for two reasons :-

1) Never owned a 2 stroke and
2) Never ridden a 2 stroke on the road (only an mt5 on a field about 20 years ago!).

Several choices spring to mind...the immediate ones being Aprillia RS125, Honda NSR125 and Cagiva Mito 125. However, if I can afford it I shall probably be going for either of the following :-

RGV250 or
RS250.

Is there really a huge difference in the running costs between a 125 and a 250 2 stroke over the course of a year considering that I shall only be doing about 1500 miles max? And, considering I've never owned a 2 stroke, what should I be looking for?

Regards, Simon.

Piss poor fuel economy

Need the best 2T oil

Sometime blow up without warning

Totally unfulfilling for anything other than brain out thrashing.

None of this is a criticism (I'm a 2T man myself!!!!) but you need to bare these points in mind.

Like I said...only gonna be riding it when the sun's out so expect to do between 1000 - 1500 miles a year. Will be lucky if I put £20 a month of petrol in it tbh!

2T oil...hmmm...what's the best currently available and how much is it per litre?

had an RGV250 for just over 3 years
used it for work and in all weathers
thrashed the arse off it all the time and took it to the isle of man twice
was told by a mechanic friend not to put the best oil in her ie full sinthetic [ something to do with engine temps not burning it off properly' as this can damage the engine ]
so i used middle of the range stuff and i never had 1 problem with her Thumbs Up

You arent gonna be breaking the speed limits, so whats the point?

Get a CBR125.

It'll do for your needs.

May I refer you to my first post...more specifically the bits I wrote thusly...

1) Never owned a 2 stroke and
2) Never ridden a 2 stroke on the road (only an mt5 on a field about 20 years ago!).

And I've already owned a CBR125 and how does it meet my "needs" when my "needs" are...again, as quoted in my first post...

"Considering I shall be using it purely for fun and weekend use only".

Not a bad bike tbh but probably nowhere near as much fun as their 2 stroke counterparts. Already said that speed is not an issue...just want a two stroke.

Hint...read thread before commenting! Laughing

Thats a real shame, it would have educated you to the real meaning of speed limits and riding on the road.

I'm selling the cb250 and I live in Norfolk. The cb250 has been re-listed on e-bay. I also have a load of spares for it...and I mean a load.
