Got caught out on Blackheath Hill this morning, filtering down past a looong queue of traffic and some joker figured he'd had enough of sitting in it and pulled a U-turn just as I got level with the back of his motor. I clobbered his front wing and went over the corner of his bonnet, landing on my face luckily so no damage there..

Anyway, the divvy's a bit battered, got a crack in the rocker cover, busted fins, indicators, mirrors, twisted forks and sundry other small marks, and I have a fractured scaphoid (again).

Fun this filtering, ain't it Wink

About 5 yrs ago, but never reported on here. Loads of bike riders coming down the hill actually stopped to ask if I was ok but the guy who had me off spent his whole time on the phone and didn't offer to even help pick the bike up. I just left it in the road until the cops came.

Unlucky dude, hope your injury heals quickly.

guess you got loads of witnesses so hopefully they'll sort out the insurance quickly for you.

Depends on the individuals Russ, used to be generally be the riders fault but just recently things have been changing.

Got witnesses - the two vehicles directly behind him. One was a Tesco lorry so he would have had a good view. The car driver never bothered collecting numbers and spent the whole time on his phone.

RussG: Hard to say and a lot depends on the witness statements. Technically there's no law against filtering but you have to excersise care and obey the road markings (stay left of solid lines etc). I doubt if many filtering accidents will be apportioned 100/0 blame given the inherant risks of filtering. I can't see how I can be appotioned much though. On my side I have photos and witnesses, were he has none.

Was he on the phone when he did his U-turn?

I couldn't see. He didn't have it in his hand when he got out of the car.

Feck Geri, that must have been you on the left (as the double white lines start) talking to the police. I was coming down there and clocked the Police so decided against going the wrong way round the last island.. Wink

If so then that's the second time I've seen you, and the second time you've been accompanied by plod. Shifty

Hope you get it sorted, I've seen a few near misses down that hill. One was a blue Hornet that swerved to miss a pedestrian and crashed. Another time some CB500 almost hit a car wing that was emerging from a hidden entrance on the left. Dodgy in the extreme there..

GWS Thumbs Up

Keep us updated on the insurance proceedings. I've had a near miss filtering recently. I was unsure as to how it would've turned out if I had of been hit.

Yeah, was me. That turning on the left is a killer and I always have a good look and slow-down there. I had just passed that island after the camera, just before the start of the bus lane when the guy chopped me.
The plod were great though and very helpful, though I wish they were traffic-duty instead of escort police as they might have reported the driver for careless driving. It was only after letting him go and me asking if they weren't going to take statements that they realised I had a busted wrist. I had told the copper who took my details 'I'm sure I've busted my scaphoid', and he didn't react much at the time which I found odd, found out later he didn't know what a scaphoid was and thought I was talking about a bit on my bike Very Happy
