I have just come back from a test ride on the above bike and it blew me away.

The offer on at the moment on it is great, I know its not the latest greatest etc but Im being swayed towards it.

What are they like to actually own, easy to maintain? Comfy on long rides etc? I will be riding roughly 800 miles a month and intend on keeping the bike for 5 years.

Im in 2 minds whether to get the GSXR or a ZX10R...

the GSxr's put out more power than the zx10's, i've got a dyno graph to show you the torque and bhp.

I love mine to bits fella, I do about 800 miles a month too and the riding position doesn't put too much stress on your arms.

I've put a few thousand miles on mine already and the only thing i've had to do is degrease/oil the chain so far, and set up the pre-load on the front and back for my weight.

the ABC mode comes in handy, if you get caught in the rain then put it on B mode and it'll still put out 180bhp, but it'll adjust the torque curve so the power doesn't get put down as aggressive as A mode. C mode knock it down to 60bhp for town tootling.

Only drawbacks of owning a 1000 is that you'll get beaten by a well ridden 600/750 around the twistys due to you having a bit of extra weight and not being able to be as smoothy round the bends, 1000's are more a point and squirt bike.

But go for it, have a few more test rides if you can. more you ride it the more you'll get to love it.

Makes 120bhp in 'mode C'.

That's as much as a 90's blade!!!

Bloody shocking.

Agree with all the above except the bit about 600/750. The weight difference is negligible (indeed an older 600 may well be heavier than the K7) and some bends favour a slightly heavier bike anyway. The suspension is of sufficient quality to negate any ill-effects of engine weight.

I ride my K4 for about 800-1000 miles per month and I'm delighted with it. I've done track days and it's superb for those, of course. However, on a long tour (400 miles per day type tour) it gets distinctly uncomfortable. Two-up is positively crap. If you are doing a lot of touring, especially with pillion then I'd recommend against.

yeh sorry, knocks it down to 90bhp, 600cc territory.

If your riding through winter you'll find the ABC switch a godsend, I was up the Cat n fiddle last week in the pouring rain and helped to keep the power down all the way from coming out mid corner or accelerating from a dead stop. ( plus my tyre was bald down the middle Laughing )

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v707/lllN30lll/01102008473.jpg

ignore the pillion seat and rear pegs, had to take somebody pillion a few mins beforehand.

it's normally like this
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v707/lllN30lll/03012008380.jpg

what colour scheme are you going for?

privately you can get the K7 1000's for 5800, i'll show you a few if you want Thumbs Up

PS as soon as you do get it, dump the stock exhausts and Cat, you'll shift about 12kg of weight and help it breathe easier, it can be replaced with a racefit like mine for 200 quid.

*edit just noticed a sodding pillion peg in this one too Laughing it was when I was trying stand up wheelies.

At George White's by me in Swindon there's a deal on the K8 1000s. You buy new on finance and get over £2000 worth of gear thrown in.

Similar for the 750 and 6 but just less gear for each. Thumbs Up

The £900 of extras is on the K8 and there is no 0% on them, the reason im thinking of the K7 is that is is massively discounted. They have 4 pre reg ones that they are desperate to get rid of!

Any Ideas what the sevicing costs are like?

Funny because I really couldn't see myself ever owning an IL4 thou.

Having said that, the CB1000R is truly tempting. Very very tempting indeed.

7/8 has selectable power options and is a bit heavier (not noticable etc)

5/6 are more fun, no cat or twin cans etc. Mr. Green
