Grrr!!
ID cards, my least favourite thing. I point blank refuse to have one, if any one starts braying on about if you've nothing to hide you've nothing to fear I may leap across time and space and throttle them.
I don't care what the French do or that The Spanish have had them for years "and never notice a thing." This is wrong in oh so many ways, just another set of 'crimes' to go on the statute book and for us to be beaten around the head with.
Stop terrorism? Utter balls, it'll stop nothing. The mere idea that I have to prove myself innocent when ever some nosey apparatchik takes the notion? I think not.

Don't see why we need ID cards anymore. I was pro ID cards initially.
Most people in the UK have ID in some form or another, i.e a Passport or a Driving licence, the fact we need an ID card just to have biometric details held on it seems like it will be created for a mass criminal super-computer which has everyones DNA, fingerprints and jizz samples held on a dodgy copy of Vista.
Which in turn will lead to miscarriage of justice when the fact that someones innocently rolled up bogey ended up at the scene of the 117,856th knife stabbing in London. The police, too busy playing with tasers and speed guns decide that the matching DNA found in the bogey is enough to convict the poor nose picker to a life in prison.
That of course, provided the CPS don't get too lenient. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. got stopped a while ago for having the nerve to ride a motorcycle down the street, i did"t have a wallet or id this made the police very suspicious, who does not carry such a thing even when there fully dressed in motocross gear-shocker.. he politely told me with a rather silly grin that fairly soon i will be required to carry a national id card or he will be able to arrest me-then after making an arse of him self because he couldt get any of my details to come through from there computer systems-followed by a few minutes of slagging off there technology-followed by taking my 15 pound tax disc off for inspection to make sure it was not fake he let me on my way! we are blessed to be in such caring hands. |

Class!
They're not getting my jizz, no sirree they're not!!!
I have a driving licence which should be enough. Its the biometric and database aspect that I disagree with along with the idea that if they are introduced and I decide not to take one, I'll be criminalised which is a fucking ridiculous proposition when you think about it.
I still believe that the onus of proof should be on the police, if they think I've done something wrong then they need to work to prove it. I shouldn't have to prove I'm innocent, that's entirely the wrong way round.
I'm a fairly easy going person, but I value my privacy and my principles very highly, no hard of thinking autocrat is going to compromise that.
This'll no doubt spawn a market in cloned ID cards, there'll be 140 seemingly identical people living in the same run down tower block.

apart from the fact id cards won't stop suicide bombers, illegal immigrants, etc and being totally pointless.. they are the biggest waste of money.
5bn? yeah right, it'll end up 50bn and be cloned in less than a week.
Just spend that money on REAL police/customs so next time the police stop an illegal immigrant they can arrest them instead of just saying. Guess the government can't use scare tactics about illegals then though.
Police: 'hey, please report to customs that your in the country iillegally.'
immigrant: ' Yeah sure... cya suckers!'

The new ID cards are going to be issued to UKRP holders - the kind of people who have followed the rules of their initial visas and who are being granted extra time to stay in the country. As a result, these aren't usually the type of people we'd worry too much about anyway - they appear to be following the Immigration Rules!
It's the ones who AREN'T applying for the visa that are most often the problem, and they won't be coming forward to get an ID card either!
IN the last month I've cancelled 6 returning students' continuing leave to enter the UK (which is what will be granted by these new cards), all of whom managed to get their visas quite easily despite working illegally in the UK - something that was only discovered when they made mistakes giving their cover story at the airport. The new ID cards won't eliminate this problem, because the immigrants will still provide the Home Office with the same documents and 'proof' that is currently required; because of all the hype about the new system, people will probably feel a false sense of security when dealing with a character with an ID card, when he is no less likely to be breaking the terms of his visa than someone with a vignette in their passport (like HellKat!!!).
Madness!
Oh, and why the article says that 'critics' say it's a softening up exercise, I don't know. The Home Office's own website states categorically that it's the first stage of 'The National ID Card Scheme.' ____________________ >Soultrader Mister James, I bet you are a copper

When the time comes and it's our turn to get them, how difficult will it be to stay off their radar?
I don't want an ID card and if they want to give me one I'm not planning on making it easy for them. ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

You've gotta get one, you've gotta get one!
The whole scheme will probably get canceled by the Tories before they get round to harassing you for it. Isn't 2012 their target for issuing cards to the majority of long term resident aliens? You can probably double that overly-optimistic prediction. ____________________ >Soultrader Mister James, I bet you are a copper

Its kind of Ironic that HK has ID cards , and yet it is a stepping stone to escape, thing is the government can be trusted here cops go to prison , the government are the servants of the people, taxes are low, social engineering doesn't happen.
That said I don't actually carry my citizenship card around and I don't tend to get stopped ever, (cops are allowed to use racial profiling here).
The problem with ID cards is that labour have worded the contracts in such a manner that even if it is canned the contractors get paid anyway...
it is complete coincidence of course that Labour MPs have interests in such companies...
But whatever 2012 the UK will be seriously in trouble (the UK has been technically insolvent for the past 2 years) ,
Must run have a date with a naive 19 year old 35C-23-35 Chinese girl in 20 minutes so this is the least of my worries!
