I am new here and I am looking for a more causual looking leather jacket. I have recently seen the Frank Thomas Cafe Racer Leather Jacket which looks quite cool and of course, the price seems to be very reasonable compared to brands such as Dainese and Alpinestar. I just wonder if it is worth getting or should I pay more (probably double) to get the top quality Dainese stuff? I am not looking for waterproof or extreme stuffs anyway.

I am a bit worried about the FT quality as I could see in the search that many people are not quite happy with FT gears. And correct me if I am wrong, FT leathers are made in China, aren't they?

Need some input and suggestions here, cheers!

Aren't Dianese the leathers that split along the seems in accidents?

See how it goes?

The Jury on here is out on FT - some people have had kit for ages without complaint, some have had nopthing but problems.

feef actually has the cafe racer jacket and might be worth speaking to.

Frank Thomas is as good as Dianese or Alpinestars IMO. They are all mid quality leather makes. To get really good quality you need to go for Crowtree or BKS or similar anyway.

FT isn't a chinese make and has pretty good quality control. I Believe they might even be a British make. Sure, they aren't super expensive and super fashionable, but they are acceptable quality and pretty good value IMO.

Speaking of "cafe racer" jackets, I just bought a Held Aras, and it looks the dogs. I have no idea how well it will hold up in a crash, as I'd never seen Held gear tested, but the construction seems solid.

More importantly though, it looks cool, therefore increasing my chances of winning the heart of any female paramedic who has to cut it off Cool

Thanks guys!

Nice information indeed. I didn't know that Dainese also have problems as well as I have never owned one.

When it comes to leathers, more expensive isn't always better! Usually the smaller firms who make made to measure leathers are the best quality. Dianese also only seem to last one crash, whereas made to measure, some mid level off the peg suits and even some cheap off the peg suits seem to stand up to multiple offs.

Put it this way: You'll never see a club racer wearing Alpinestars or Dianese, whereas you might see them wearing Crowtree, BKS, Buffalo, Frank Thomas, Hein Gericke or similar. Karma

Rather than spending loads of money on the brand name. Why not go for HG leathers?

Everyone i know that has had HG gear has had nothing bad to say about them.

My dad had a textile jacket which i wore a few times and it was brilliant, i have have had 2 pairs of their boots which have been pretty good (1 pair leaked but only because i kept getting my toe down and rubbed the sole down so much that it wore through to the not so waterproof stuff inside Laughing )

And you can get a 2 piece leather suit for maybe 200-250, rather than 450-500 you will pay for a dainese, A* etc.

Depends if he's based in europe though... with a name like justhandguns I would guess he's from across the pond...

I just brought my first ever pair of leather trousers in 5 years of riding Shocked.

Just a plain black pair of Frank Thomas 90 quid jeans.

They feel strange, me being used to either Draggin/Normal Jeans or textiles. I think snug is the word. Good on the bike but its gonna take some getting used to wearing them off the bike.

That is a fair point, the majority of gun owners in the UK nowadays are 14 year old kids....and i don't think a 14 year old kid is gonna ask about FT leathers Laughing

Surely the americans have a HG equivalent. Maybe Mcgee can shed some light on this.

Oh, no, I am in London and I am pretty old. Justhandguns is just a nick name really as I did some IPSC shootings a few years back. I wish I am still 14 really. Sorry to disappoint you guys! Cool

That's some good suggestions. I have looked at some HG leathers and they also look nice as well. Let me see if I can go to the local bike shops to have a look.
