I've just booked my practise for 27th november. It's at 08:20 in telford.

Is doing it that early going to be make it easier/harder. It does mean I have to go through college traffic, but I aint filtering on my test.

I have "accidently" mastered the controlled stop (emergency) through practise from racing down contry lanes. Only problem I have is the U-turn. I try to follow the advice, look far ahead, knees in but it never seems to work. I can do it but only if I totally open the throttle half way round, which I would fail due to lack of control.

Any advice other than practise much welcome.

Bucketloads of revs, use the clutch at bite and ride the back brake to steadily control.

as above, loadsa revs, look where you're going and ride that back brake for control, you'll probably find the examiner puts you on a really wide road for your u -turn anyway, so you should breeze it, if you can practice on your own do so.

The only issue you may have with doing your test that early is it limits your practice time beforehand - I did a DAS style training so had to have my instructor with me as on 500, but don't think this is such an issue for you.

It is busier in rush hour (obviously Wink ) but as long as you bear this in mind you should be ok and it sounds like you're used to riding in these traffic conditions already.

Emergency stop - don't forget your lifesaver and obs. U turn - just get out and practice lots!

Good luck Thumbs Up

Doing your test in rush hour can be very beneficial. As you are not expected (or allowed!) to filter, you can eat up a lot of test time sat in traffic. Thumbs Up

I was/am under the impression that you CAN filter, as long as it is done SAFELY ! I wouldn't recommend it though, but if someone could clarify the position???

Just "googled" this.......

Motorcycle Roadcraft explains that filtering is a form of overtaking to make progress past stationary or slow moving traffic but gives no real advice on where or where not to do it. You might be surprised to know that filtering is taught on basic training courses in congested areas and the DSA examiner will expect to see it applied on test if appropriate.

Interesting, as I sat in traffic on both my tests and my instructor mates are under guidance from DSA that filtering is neither appropriate nor required on the test. Hence them not teaching it.

Very Happy Good luck for your test - I'm in Telford too! Got my test next week Shocked My instructor always said not to filter on test, just think, all the time you're waiting in traffic are seconds or minutes knocked off the clock and less riding time for them to test you on! Laughing
