Alright guys and gals....

right now, I'm sat at work with nothing to do and cant stop thinking about the day i finally get to sit on that dream bike and disappear for a ride..

I have just (finally after way too many hours of deliberation/being skint!) sent my application off for my provisional and after a few phone calls to check availability, will be booking my CBT in the next 2 weeks, then the theory and then the DAS blah blah blah....

The thing is, Ive taken the plunge and am getting an R6 '08 having spent most of last saturday sitting on different bikes in different showrooms, and fell in love with the R6 straight away, and feel like a ball of nervous excitement/anticipation for the next few weeks ahead, due to the fact in 6/8 weeks (hopefully) I should be passed and sat on my R6.... Shocked Very Happy

I guess I'm just writing this more as a form of therapy to try and calm my ball of nervous energy, but ultimately am looking for any advice (positive or constructive!!!!) on the whole process to make the journey a whole lot more enjoyable!

Cheers, and speak soon...

Good luck, but uhmmm. Maybe not such a good idea buying the bike especially if you have never riden anything at all before.

How do you know its going to be the right bike for you? It looks good yes but bikes are like people, they all have their own attitude and it may clash with yours.

Having the bike sitting there may or may not spur you on, you will just need wait and see.

Not being harsh just saying.

If you have never ridden anything before, bar pootling round on a DAS Hornet, that R6 will rip your head off.

Not saying don't do it, but be very, very careful.

You picked almost THE worst bike to learn on - seriously.

It has overly sharp acceleration, stupid top speed - and it's built so you don't feel the speed you are doing - is unstable and costs a fortune when it goes down the street in even a low speed newbie mistake which is very easy to make .

If you haven't put money down on it I'd suggest another trip to check out bikes that are 50bhp or less.

Great that you've decided to ride a bike but i have to reflect what's already been said, the R6 is no learner bike. Sure you'll learn on a 500 twin then once the L plates are gone you're a biker, right? No, (cliche i know but...) the PROPER learning comes after you've passed your test, the R6 is no bike to do that on. Rethink if you value your life, the R6 will still be around in 2 years time.

Not meaning to burst your bubble!! Whilst I agree wholeheartdly with previous comments, the ultimate choice is yours. I personally would never buy anything that I had never ridden, or indeed driven. But I would buy something off a menu that I had never tried. Not a good example I know, but I could always get something else if I didn't like it! Not really the same with a bike. If you haven't yet paid for it, then ask if someone could take you on the back, preferably a friend who can ride, and that way at least you would get to feel it's power, and your friend could give you some feedback on that particular bike. Either way, welcome to the wonderful world of biking, good luck with your test, and ride safe and free.
