A lot of them you have to input part of registration number but in a large carpark it would be impractical to actually check the tickets that closely - but you could appeal and the machine would have a record of your buying it.
Rain would be a problem too ...
I've never as yet paid to park a bike anywhere.

Just don't get one for the reasons mentioned. If you get fined, contest it and it will be over-turned.

Just hope you never park in the one in York where bikes are not allowed then...

Best advise is read the signs in the car park. Some say bikes free other say bikes pay. But if you park in a car bay expect to have to buy a ticket.
Some tear in half and leave half on the bike.
Maybe better to take whole ticket with you and leave note on bike advising them of the time and number on the ticket. If they do ticket you then at least you have proof that you bought a ticket before they clocked you.
Even better now are the ones where you can txt to pay. No tickets to worry about.

i left my bike in a p+d car park last year, ran to the post office across the road, straight in, collected parcel, ran out and returned to find a fixed penalty notice stuck on my seat, 40 squid i think it was. i was gone for literally 2-3 minutes(really 2-3 minutes!). The cock was nowhere to be seen(lucky for him)

he must have been hiding somewhere as i remember looking round thinking about paying for a ticket and couldnt see any sign of authority, so decided against it due to the short ammount of time i would have been gone.

i dont go in that car park anymore due to superhero car park attendants Evil or Very Mad
