Well, the Australians have been the first 'western' country to follow in China's path and implement a country-wide filter on the entire internet.
BUT it's not to stem the flow of information!!
In reality, as the news tells us, it's to protect children from the army of paedophiles on the internet who are constantly stalking your little angels. Also, it's so that the police can sit and watch all those islamic terrorists that discuss their next bombing campaign in internet chatrooms
Rest assured people, the rest of the world won't be far behind. Enjoy net neutrality whilst you can! You'll soon be paying extra to visit any websites that are outside of the 'rich-group', which will in turn cause the death of the free internet (since who's going to pay extra to visit a news website when they can access the BBC for free?) ____________________ Yamaha YB100 | Yamaha TZR125 | Yamaha XJ600S | Suzuki GSF600

The UK government has talked about it....
under the guise of "to maintain quality of media"
Guido of order-order.com has been threatened with this several times as he has embarrassed the government many times. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Agreed Stinkwheel, you're totally right (for now).
But the point is that we shouldn't have to work around it. Especially not when we're the stupid cunts paying for this censorship.

In May of 2007, for instance, a MySpace moderator “admitted that it is MySpace.com policy to censor and filter out posts containing links to the Prison Planet.com website, adding that the MySpace server automatically blocks such information,” according to Paul Joseph Watson. |
Regardless of your opinion on the validity of PrisonPlanet or Infowars or any of those sorts of sites, surely there must be some reason they're being censored? The fact that it could be bullshit is irrelevant.
Newsflash: 75% of the internet is useless bullshit. Why concentrate on censoring certain political websites? ____________________ Yamaha YB100 | Yamaha TZR125 | Yamaha XJ600S | Suzuki GSF600

Surely that's for them to judge - MySpace being their property and their responsibility? That their political or ethical views do not tally with yours does not automatically render them invalid - especially as they are well within their legal rights, as the service in question belongs to them!

And I think that whether it's right or ethical is the precise point of this thread. |
They're entitled to display anything they want on THEIR service. If you don't like what they choose to put up, you would logically take your custom elsewhere.
Criticise all you like, you're quite entitled to - but it won't change the fact that they are equally entitled to take a view on such matters, and as they own the products in question, their view counts.
I fail to see the issue - everyone skews facts/figures/news/opinions in their favour, whether they be an individual, a politician, an NGO worker or an Evil Corporation (tm). It's hardly news, is it? ____________________ >Soultrader Mister James, I bet you are a copper

Ever consider the chance that the Infowars information could be bullshit?
They a have agendas too, you know, just like governments. It serves their purpose to say that they are being censored. It is a very biased source, it has very low reliability. Much like the government statistics on road deaths caused by speed, as discussed in another thread. |

I couldn't really give a crap about that chav-filled sausage fest or what they put on their service (or filter out). But when the internet as a whole is under threat of censorship, even if is to 'take out the trash', I must vehemently object. I was just raising a question in curiosity of why you (not personally) think the Murdoch owned company would have more issue with 'bullshit conspiracy theories' than the rest of the shite that infests that site.
I don't know where, how or why this thread deviated into a discussion about MySpace and how legal companies have the right to do what they want on their own servers. I never questioned their right to do it, just their motivation.
Maybe we could get back to the matter at hand of the impending death of net neutrality?

I agree that infowars is biased but no, I don't dismiss it as complete bullshit. I'd trust it a lot more than any main-stream news source since profit is clearly not a objective. Maybe craaazy nutcases just enjoy spreading mis-information across the internet in the hopes it will destable world governments and destroy humanity, just for the lulz. I don't know.
Frankly if it's bullshit I don't see any reason for it to be censored. Clearly if it's such bullshit then one could figure that out from actually visiting and reading the news on the site, instead of letting Mr Brown do it for you? ____________________ Yamaha YB100 | Yamaha TZR125 | Yamaha XJ600S | Suzuki GSF600

If you don't want to discuss things, don't raise them in the first place.
Net neutrality is a myth - every part of it is owned by SOMEBODY, and each somebody has their own agenda.

Information maybe biased untrue or blatant lies or the truth....
The thing is right now we can view all of it biased, true, propaganda and decide which one to believe...
While in the future dark dystopian future you will be TOLD what to believe and you cannot look to see if these things are true or not...
Al la Hazel Blears 3 months ago said the UK economy in 1997 was in tatters, quick fact check says this is a lie.
Gordo said we have less debt than in 1996, also a lie... ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

Ugh... I raised the issue of MySpace and Google censoring their own servers as a question of motivation, not legal right. Clearly this just got people confused and derailed the thread, so I made an attempt to salvage it.
| Mister James wrote: | Net neutrality is a myth - every part of it is owned by SOMEBODY, and each somebody has their own agenda. |
Net neutrality is very, very real. What it means is that every byte of information is created equal; meaning that if you were to visit the BBC's website or visit Uncle Sammies Crazy Conspiracy Theories website, your ISP will not give preferential treatment to either. And, assuming equal server load on both servers, you will recieve an equal service from both websites.
That is net neutrality, and that is what is under attack. Big corporations will pay ISP's to give their websites and their agenda's preferential treatment, prioritising their data and pushing third-party data underneath them. Soon we will all be offered a basic 'free' internet service, provided by the government, which will only give access to pre-determined websites that are within select circles. If you want access to websites out of these circles, you'll have to pay an extra fee. Which will undoubtedly kill the 'little guy' having any voice on the world wide web.

Why exaggerate? I said I don't dismiss it as complete bullshit, frankly I think only a fool would.

Perhaps, perhaps not. The majority have always proven to be wrong many times in the past, and given the unparalleled laziness and ignorance of most people in the political arena it's hardly surprising that such an agenda would slip them by. But it's alright, because it's bullshit, right?

Mr Brown intends on censoring it. Just like every other western country. Not by snipping it, but by plugging it in where he wants it to go. ____________________ Yamaha YB100 | Yamaha TZR125 | Yamaha XJ600S | Suzuki GSF600
