HPI checks and private plates?

Someone I know is looking to buy something that has had two private plates and is now back on its original plates.

How would be best to HPI it so any finance on the car shows up? All plates? Just the latest plate?

Finance is showing clear on the latest plate but owing on a previous plate. The vehicle make and model is staying the same on all HPI checks.

Can anyone help clear this up for me?

What I would do in this case is Hpi the chassis number joe.. but it should all be ok if the current plate number comes up clean.. I have had this once before and chassis number was clean, so all was good..

As said give the chassis number as well as the new reg number, it should come up with a plate change notice on the hpi and give you previous reg numbers and the dates that they were changed, it should also show the dates of previous owner changes so if the owners have changed since the finance showed up the chances are it will have been paid off.
