Redundancy means I'm job hunting, anyone recommend some I.T. recruitment sites? I've done CWjobs, Totaljobs, Monster, just need some more to spam my CV with.

Try www.jobserve.co.uk though not sure if you can register CVs.

Best results are probably going to come from applying to jobs and following up with a phone call.

Rather than upload my CV onto those sort of sites which just basically mean your CV is in a slushpile which nobody ever looks at, I tend more to go to sites of the places that would be interesting to me to work for ... and then look for their "what jobs we have" section.

Then (if there's nothing I'm actually qualified/capable of applying for) I register for regular updates from the company or industry and get info about what the company is doing. It means you get to know the names in the industry, the type of stuff going on, and seeing from headlines alone what sort of things are happening.

I opened a separate email address specifically for that, and it just downloads into my Thunderbird when something comes from the companies I've registered with.

Invariably you get a lot of non-relevant stuff NOT about jobs, but that just means you get to stay abreast of what's going on in the area you're interested in. I've got updates coming from sites to do with medicine/science/education/publishing and assorted other media type companies. Usually I only read the headlines, but it keeps you up to scratch with the current trends in the field you're interested in. Every so often you see a job thats interesting and you stick your CV in. Lots of them have systems where your CV stays uploaded once you've registered for one job there, anyway.

And of course (sods law) now I've actually GOT a job (which is already boring, LOL) ... there are MUCH MORE INTERESTING jobs which I would rather be doing coming into my email inbox than when I was sitting here twiddling my thumbs all day Laughing

Slightly off-topic but related question - what's the preferred format for CV now?

Normal .doc files are fine normally, but if you are on Office 07 and above DON'T send .docx files, you only get a email back (or not) saying they can't open the file.... Rolling Eyes

Bit misleading title.

I was hoping you were single and some wooing and roses would put me in good stead. Sad

The search continues.

Would recommend reed myself. Was getting a bit depressed at how hard I was finding it, then got some really nice phonecalls off a helpful girl for a job I'd taken a punt at.

2 interviews later (one of which I was an hour late for due to the District Line exploding friday) I'm employed. First day tomoro Thumbs Up Very Happy

And bless her, the girl in question is travelling down from St Albans to WGC to sort out the paperwork involved Thumbs Up

Now if you'd only had said "kebab" instead of "roses", I'd be all yours Smile
