Don't do it! I traded in my ZX10 for the same reasons and got a similar bike to the XT (Versys)

Biggest mistake ever!

Had it a month and traded it in for a ZX6. Looking for a new Fireblade in the coming months aswell. Miss me 1000cc sports so much Sad

XT can be a fun bike I'm sure... but you've still got time to change it to a bit-more-super moto Wink.

I was looking at xt's before I got the TDM

Believe it or not the XT is only a few kg lighter than my Speed Four 165kg dry and under 50bhp Confused

A lot of people are doing exactly the same thing for the same reasons. The XT isn't popular with everybody but can be a lot of fun still. Alright they are not that fast and a bit heavy but they can be so much fun and you don't have the silly servicing problems associated with the "proper" supermotos.6000miles service intervals but most people swap oil and filter at 3000 too. You will start looking for different types of road to ride.
Is it brand new or used???? The older ones tend to have the surging problems

The BMWG650X has more power less weight and 6000 mile service intervals too Smile. Price new hasn't been too far off either; can't see any reason to get a XT over the BMW really.

Chris: I can understand the low power (and I suspect 50hp may actually be slightly optomistic!); I enjoy the 'fun riding' of low powered bikes more; you can more often have the throttle open more and feel like you're 'using' a reasonable amount of what the engine has to offer; while doing so on powerful bikes ends up with you averaging double figure speeds.

Its an 07 (56 plate) 5k on the clocks (the zx has 27)
I'm liking the fact its pinned as being a bit more or a touring bike as much as it is a super-moto, which i believe from its dakar pedigree-predecessor, also the seat looks fairly comfy for the other half.

Another thing is its 7 insurance groups lower so my premium should go down a fair bit, thus i wont feel as guilty about bikes being more of a toy nowadays as opposed to main transport.

You can get huskys with 4k service intervals which would be much more fun I reckon. The bloke in the dealership said the head doesn't need looking at till 20k!

Dunno what his reserve, is, but best of all worlds (probably) cheap, lots of fun, lighter weight/more power etc:
