Ok, my budget for a bike has grown from £500 to about £1750.

Just looking around on ebay, and few other places, I have seen some awesome bikes going for relatively little.

I could get a ducati 600ss, 748. Albeit from the 90's but its a Duke.
I could even get a fireblade.
Do you guys reckon with the economy failing atm, more bikes going on sale from the people that only use them as hobbies to raise some cash.

I think I may wait a bit, probs some real bargains to get over the next few months me thingks.

If you had £1750, you were going to be 17, and needed a bike that has a decent top speed and sporty, what would you buy?

Select some bikes you like, do some online insurance quotes and go for the bike with the quote that penetrates your rectum the least. Thumbs Up

Have you considered insurance prices?
You could probably get an early R1 for that kinda money if you're lucky; also early R6, similar age ZX6 or GSXR.
Insurance on the above will be quite nasty I suspect as will a 748.

Ducati 600ss is quite a different bike to the above, but insurance should be cheaper. I'd go for a TRX850 over one of them, which can easily be got for £1k or less, but doesn't have the Ducati badge.

yeah but I could get a bike for £1600, insurance £600
or a bike £1000 and insurance £900

The bike is more important that insurance, as in I would be willing to spend a bit more if the insurance was "penetrating" me.

As per my description, what would be the best bike for my situation do you more epxerienced people think.

£1750
fast-ish
sporty
im 5'10"
effectively short and fat but not obese.
First big bike so don't want a thou or something that I can't control.

My total budget £2750 but will probably go up due to other monies.

£1750 bike
£300 test
£700 insurance and new jacket.
got everything else although will probs get new lid in the near future.

I get paid weekly so every week I wait, I get another £200 definate towards my bike cus I need to live.

If my ped survives the winter, I may just wait but I doubt it and the temptation to but something before im 17 to get ready is increasing!

Ive noticed the prices of bikes are going down aswell. People 'need' to sell them, so are willing to accept less, but not that many people are buying at the moment.

Works both ways though, becuase as im trying to take advantage of the present prices, im also trying to sell a bike so Thumbs Up + Thumbs Down

Highly doubt you'll get an R1 or an R6 for £1.8k unless it's proper tatty.

Seen plenty of R6s that aren't in too bad a state go for that sort of price; definitely at this time of year. Maybe not minty-fresh, but clean enough condition.
Just have to keep an eye out for ones other have seen and jump on them at the right time. Too many people go out wanting to have a bike *now* and end up paying a lot more than if they had some patience.
Similarly for the R1 really, but a harder to get one in ok nick, got to try a bit harder/for longer.
