I was riding sensibly when I got pulled over, admittedly for a small plate initially.

Also this morning when on way in I came from a 50 zone into a 40 at about 53 and didnt really slow down much, but I was behind a car and an MPV doing same speed. It was on a corner and round it there was a police van (ford galaxy thing) was parked facing me on my side of road, it pulled out to turn round the second I passed so I overtook the cars and turned off the main road, it hadn't tried to follow. Now I'm assuming his initial reaction was to come out behind me and flash me down, why not the 2 other speeding cars?....there's nothing illegal on the front if mine so no reason there.

There is definately discrimination against bikes, mainly coz we're a minority and all Sports bikes can wheelie and speed easily so we should be stuffed up the arse on a regular basis to keep us in order... I don't remember seeing guy in dayglo gear on GPZs or Diversions being pulled over.

Yeah there is, but if your have nothing illegal, you have nothing to worry about (which is why I seem to crap myself when I see those blue lights in my mirror Razz )

I've been stopped three time...

1. I was riding like a tit in a hurry, come round a corner, and theres a police car, he pulls out, follow me, siren, i poull over, not much, tells me to slow down, if he had been a speed trap, i'd have been fucked

2. Riding through Reading, police bike going the other way, U turns to follow me, pulls me over, talks, asks me loads of insurance/ license general stuff. tells me to buy some ear plugs as its really loud above 120mph Shocked Laughing

3. traffic volvo parked up on motorway bridge, as I ride past, they pull out and follow me. follow me for about ~3 miles, then pulls me over, checks bike reg/name I think, asks me some general stuff, then tells me to take it easy and ride safely.

Second two times I was riding sensibly, done nothing wrong, etc. How do you stop getting thier attention? Dayglo vest, old bike, and have and do nothing illegal, then they can't do you for anything.

Not having a race can would probably help as well... even when you're not revving it.. go and find a bike with a standard can on and compare the sound... the race can is a lot louder, even at tickover.

Well at the moment they are trying to crack down on 'nusance riders'. You know the ones that perform what *they*(keeping my opinions out of it Smile !) define as dangerous moves such as dangerous overtaking moves, wheelys, stoppys on the public highway, very loud cans, 60 in a 30 limit and generay 'frightening' behaviour. Oh yes and dark visors - cos there leathal arnt they........

Unfortunatly they seem to think that applys to every single biker. If you go near a bike meet (round here Avebury Wed and Sun nights) they have 'road blocks' where they are pulling every single bike (including the hippy on the way to work) and no cars. Is that discrimination? I think it could be.

i was wondering if someone could tell me do police give bikers a lot of hassle as i heard they seem to focus quite a bit on bikers and pull bikers over loads is this true?

and also how do u stop attracting police attention as...even if u are riding sensibly i hear that they still pull u over Embarassed

I only really used to get hassled when I was learing, not had too much trouble on bigger bikes. I usually keep my bikes fairly stock, think it depends on how you look as well, full leathers against jacket and jeans. I was followed five times in one week when I had my little RS. Got pulled over for doing 90mph past a camera car on a bike that should have been restricted, told me I was very lucky that they didn't have the camera's rolling as they'd just finished their shift. Were quite good natured about it though, first words out of his mouth were "Is it quite nippy sir". Otherwise I think I've been fairly lucky really, doomed myself now though!

Never been pulled over on the road.

Only time when i was in a crash at night and it was blatent the bike was stuffed. lol (no front head light gave it away).

And i generally don't ride all that safe.
And normally speeding and all the other lark.

Been pulled for riding in bus/cycles lanes twice. Once for my illegal visor which when slid back up (Lazer Rev) the copper just told me to slow down.

Never been pulled. Never been hassled. Ridden into petrol station to see 10 (yes, 10) policemen standing around and not one even raised an eyebrow at the noise my can was making.

The thing is that the hippy is on a factory standard sports tourer, well used comuter bike clothes, practical rucksac and no frills (he keeps the work bike / clothes that way for just that reason) but they still pull him over on Wednesday / Sunday evenings in the Summer.

Thing is they dont do anything but it still makes him late for work / home. I just hope it isnt going to be the norm for the whole summer and I hope they dont pull me over as it makes me sick with nerves and paniky - I dont know why!

at the moment there is a national campaign against any nuisance drivers, including cars.
I bet if you were to look on some of the cutomised or fast car chat forums they are saying exactly the same as you guys are.

And yes, I would say that what you are wearing when riding does have some impact on whether you get pulled or not just the same as 5 youngsters in a car is more likely to be pulled than and old codger in the same car.

Fact of life i'm sorry to say, but as always, you all know the law regarding visors, cans and small plates. If you got em your likely to be pulled but the choice to have them is yours. no good moaning when ya get busted.

And before you all moan, I have nothing against smallish plates, obviously the rules are made to make them clearly visible and easily read by whatever means. suppose its cheaper than emploting police with good eyesight or cameras that can read small writing. Visors, well thats another thing. i really cannot understand or agree with this rule. It does rather suggest that the authorities think bikers are stupid and would not think of changing their visor dependant on the time of day or weather. Mind you, some previous threads here have suggested that some ride with dark visors all the time.
Load cans, They can be rather annoying if you have some idiot revving the bollocks out of their bike in a built up area.

Seems most rules are set up to protect the innocent from the odd few total idiots.

ps:
yes i use a dark visor, yes i have been pulled

Bikercop - I was once told by a local copper that the most stolen car in the West Mids is a Metro, so if they see a couple of lads in the car they pull em over. Think a similar thing applies to bikers, if you ride around and don't look like the bike's yours, not wearing leathers, boots etc you're likely to get a pull. After having a bike knicked and another attempted and I know you know how it feels, I'd rather that they get pulled and checked out.

The biker cop who pulled me over didn't check my name against the bike registration, which I would actually prefer if it was done if they're gonna stop my bike. I could have nicked it, and all that and got away Confused

My can's not *that* loud Smile Razz

I think it's just down to thier mood, what they think of your bike, and general randomness Sad

Mrshippy: Is there not another way he can ride, and don't they reconise him if they pull him over every time? Confused

Hi

Seems to depend on area.

When I lived in Northern Ireland I never got pulled up, except once on a routine road block near the border going back to visit my parents

When I lived in Portsmouth they were a**eholes. Routine checks all over the place, normally by a rude and ignorant copper (only one was polite and pleasant). At least they were easy to spot when they followed you as they had (without exception) VERY bright headlights and also tended to tailgate you.

Got pulled up once in Nottingham for not speeding. He wanted to know why I was going so slowly (I was doing 30 in a 30 limit with a copper following me........). Charlotte once got pulled up 3 times for "Just a routine check" on 1 15 mile journey (from Mansfield to Colwick), but she had just bought that bike and we have a suspision that the previous owner might have been, lets say, well known

Never been pulled up on a bike in Staffordshire, but been pulled up twice in the car for random drink drive road blocks (once in a lhd car on Belgian plates that I had just brought into the country, and that confused them)

All the best

Keith

I've only got pulled once,

I was on the NSR and was riding like a cock, I got pulled and got a producer, absolutely shit myself and am now quite over cautions when around the police.

No problems yet on the CBR, haven't gotten round to putting the legal plate on, and the current one really does quite take the piss.

Cougs.

Was driving down to the seafront this afternoon, saw the traffic police two cars behind following me, so took it easy.
Quickly parked up and got off and sat down beside the bike.
They passed me 4 times, each time slowed down and nearly stopped starring at me.
Just looked back.
Havn't they got anything better to do!
As soon as i saw them leave, i stayed behind 10 mins and cleared off myself, thought they would be waiting for me around the corner, but they wasn't. Cool
