Reading Wave's mum thread it reminded me of a conversation I had with a mate just yesterday.

He had been saying that he would be keen to get a bike and come out riding with me.
As he's a good mate of mine I would like nothing more than to have him along side me out on the road Very Happy

Obvious concerns were raised about his shitfull driving abilities and thinking they would translate over to riding the bike.

This guy had 3 accidents in 1 week in the car and even managed to hit the roof of a house....don't even ask.

Anyway getting to the point of the post.

As the usual conversation came up ...as it does about bikes he said he wouldn't be getting one now because he was told he shouldn't

My first guess was his mother had passed comment on it and I was right....but with a twist.

She had visited a psychic and she had said her son was thinking of getting a bike and that if he did he was going to have an accident.
She went on to say she couldn't tell how bad he was hurt and that all she could see was him laying on the ground hurt and the bike being all bent.

Credit to her for bringing it up I guess, because he hadn't even mentioned to his mother about getting a bike.

I'm curious about this sort of sort of shit but don't think I would let it stop me from getting out there.

Would be well impressed if it came true though and be going back as soon as I got out of hospital to get the lotto numbers Very Happy

So what do ya reckon ?

Riding the bike might give him some much needed insight and improve his skills on the roads. That, or he'll learn the hard way. I know someone who drives very badly and has an arrogant attitude towards it. He's started riding and his habits have changed a lot. He actually said that seeing it all from the bike's perspective made him more careful.

As for the superstition stuff, that's anyone's guess. I personally don't pay much attention to it myself. Thumbs Up

well that was easy cash for the psychic Laughing "my son is usless in a car but wants a bike!" i'd have said the same as the psychic for free.
seriously though, its a bit like if you have a red car you'l have a car crash... only because theres more red cars (or was at one time) and if you crash a bike it usually does end up in a heap, (rider too)
one once told me i was gona be rich... guess what.... im not! Laughing

My mum did that and got told I would have my 'silly head' on and be involved in something on the bike but I'd be ok, 6 months later nothing had happened.

Then I got caught speeding etc and came very close to losing my license so my mum decided that was the incident.

I was 22 and riding a sports bike, it's obvious I was going to get in to trouble at some point ffs.

If psychics could really see the future they would all be winning the lottery. The excuses they trot out for not doing so are laughable Laughing

No way, that could happen to me. Or my Dad. Or any of my biking mates.

It's a sign I tell thee.

"She had visited a psychic"

Would she be interested in buying some magic beans?

No, it wouldn't.

I'm gonna die one day, maybe sooner than I think. I don't want to die, but if it happens when I'm doing one of the things I love then that's gotta be better than having my arse wiped by an ignorant migrant paid £5.50 a hour when I'm stuffed in a care home by the kids.

I feel sorry for the guys and gals who'll have to clear me up though, as with the way I sometimes ride to work it'll be quite a mess when it goes wrong! Shocked

The All-Father wove the skein of your life a long time ago. Go and hide in a hole if you wish, but you won't live one instant longer. Your fate is fixed. Fear profits a man nothing.

She needed a psychic to tell her that? Given the muppets track record my fucking dog could have predicted it...

My advice is to take out a LARGE life insurance policy on him.

Could be right. Maybe I should be putting dibs on all his stuff that I like just in case.

Keep in mind though the psychic knew nothing of his driving accidents nor his want to get a bike.

We had some massive storms over here and he was heading along the road when a roof was torn off and came sliding down the road at him.
Figured he could use it like a ramp of sorts and just go coasting over it.
Didn't quite work like that. Gave all those who lived in the street something to do for like 4 hours while they tried to remove his car out of the roof.
He was ok but the car was a bit worse for wear.

He wouldn't drive in the rain again after that week for like a whole year.
