Acceleration then gear it so the top end is higher but still with a decent amount of torque.
Although top speed is fun, but taking ages to get there would be pointless. I'd probably end up buying a car instead, unless i was gonna do some stunting. ____________________ |--Previous--|:2007 Aprilia SX50... --Current--|: 2007 Kawasaki ER-6N

I've never really felt the urge to go really fast, I've done it before and yeah its cool but most the time on the roads I normally ride acceleration is the key. There is a lot of corners and a lot of braking and back onto the power. I could ride round at 60 max if my bike could get there in a silly quick time. ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

If the bike is small say, a 125 sports bike, you have got to ask yourself what you use the bike for, its no use gearing a bike down so it will only do 50 mph but it gets there real quick if you have to do 50 miles on a dual carriageway to work and back every day. If yoiu only use it for blatting round town fair enough.
If its a big bike, say a Blade (like mine), there comes a point when it gets a bit too hairy to gear it down any more because you just cant use the power anymore, coz it will just wheelie everywhere. It will still do over 140 but it just wants to lift all the time. Same as the 125 though, you have to think what you use the bike for. If you only blatt round town and do short hops, a geared down blade is great fun, not too good for the trip to the South of France or the 'Ring though. If you want both (like me), you could always go one up on the back and one or two down on the front, then just fit the standard front sprocket when you want to go for distance. It will still be slightly geared down but at least you will use less juice than running it fully geared down, throw the small front on when you get there and start wheelieing with the locals at the Jerez Moto GP. Your chain will have to be fairly new coz eventually you will run out of adjustment running the low gearing, unless you change the back one to match. 2 up on the back and two down on the front means the length of chain doesnt change between the low and high (standard) gearing |

ive down geared alot of the bikes ive had, gsxr 750, r6 etc yea it wheelys a bit more but its still controlable, more power were you realistically want it, and tbh ur not guna be doing 160mph + alot of the time anyway. Yea ok as luke mentioned its fun walking on porshes etc with the standard gearing, but downgearing ultimatley makes for a better road bike imo. Track, well that depends on were you are obviously. ____________________ those who risk nothing, become nothing, achieve nothing....

Acceleration - I can use/abuse that, silly top ends will just detroy my licence
and without my bike I am one miserable biatch that all the blow jobs in the world will not cheer up. ____________________ Kal...

Yeah I bet you could even flip a CG with enough ham-fisted throttle and a snapped clutch cable!!
For some of you the top end may be a distant dream but if you live where theres plenty of space and little traffic police like me (where the general biking population hasnt already ruined it for everyone else ) the you can see clock speeds upwards of 170mph in 5th gear in very unremarkable situations with beautiful scenery around you!! ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |
