Any ideas? I've seen people with it threaded through their arm, but if you came off you would shatter your arm in about a million places (the real reason is it's not very comfortable). No top box suggestions, as I don't have one.

Thumbs Up

I've done ~80 miles with one on my arm, it isnt that uncumfortable.

I've found my lids fit in surprisingly small backpacks.

When I bought a new lid the old one went into the tank bag with no problems.

Guessing you have an SV650 from your avatar, fairly sure these would have a helmet hook under the pillion seat that you hook the metal hook on your helmet straps to. Do up the straps first, mount it non chain side if you have two hooks and hook the metal clip on. Can then wrap in a carrier bag, or use a cargo net to mount properly.

The hooks work so your helmet is secure when you close your seat. Works fine on my R1.

Thanks a lot. I'd tried hanging it from under the pillion seat but it was bashing around everywhere; I just did the strap up then hung it and it's great.

With my spare craft lid, i take the visor off, pop it in the bag and then put the two clips of the flap of the bag through the helmet and lock them. Thumbs Up

Does no one bother reading warning labels / manuals anymore...

They are only meant for storing a lid whilst your parked, not whilst your riding!

And what kinda backpack would hold a fullface lid... My bagster tank bag expands out so its HUGE and that still won't hold a full face lid and it's like 34L....

i'd deffinatley say cargo net - i used to often carry a spare lid, jacket and gloves for my pillion.

with a cargo net the helmet went on top of the jacket and gloves under it then all cargo netted down. or when i used a 'spider bungee' thing the jacket went on top of the gloves and helmet to hold everything in safely. worked perfect.

on extra long journeys (20 miles) i tend to put the helmet into my tail pack - fills it with the gloves and some small bits, neck warmers etc but its there then and safe.

On my zxr it sits on the tank, next to my chest. Arms keep it in going round corners, and the screen shields it from blowing off.

Tankbag before I lent it to a friend who then took it to mongolia was the best plan though.

They are better when riding than on your arm, or in a bag!

Can you not imagine a 20mph spill and the helmet in your back landing underneath your back?

That would cause some major problems. But who does 20mph? So think 30/40/50mph. I personally would not like to have my back landing on an unbreakable sphere.

even a supermarket carrier bag with the helmet in tied to the back of the bike is better than attaching it to your back

you might not have a cargo net, but you must have a carrier bag kicking around somewhere, and if you dont know how to tie a knot, look on the internet about how to tie one

personally id prefer to use panniers or tail pack, but thats only because i already have them, other wise it would be a cargo net or a carrier bag, definitely not a ruck sack on my back

i know of one person on here who broke their back after coming off wearing a rucksack, Im sure others have done it.

Yea that will work as long as you tell the rest of the world not to knock you off as well. Wink

I never see the point of saying I know someone who has..blah blah blah.
We all know people who have been killed riding bikes but we still do.
I'd carry a helmet in a rucksac.

I've got the Knox six-pack and although you can stow a helmet on the back of it, it does say not for road use, I think primarily because the helmet could come loose and bounce off down the road behind you.

If you are carrying a pillion helmet on a regular basis then you can't beat a topbox especially for weather protection. If you don't want or don't have a top box then the Oxford Lid Lasher looks the part, but cargo net will always do the job. Only problem is I've yet to find it on a UK website, even though it's listed in the Oxford '07 catalogue.
