ok all,

chatting to a friend who ive not seen for a while last night and i was mentioning ive seen 107 on the clocks on the limiter on my zx10r (2005 model), now as this was the speedo i know its not quite accurate but what i want is other peoples views on this.

ive found a small report that the top speed in 1st is 104-105 but im after a few things.
1 what have you guys seen in 1st.
2 other reports on the net about the top speed.
3 solid proof of 100+ in first.

the reason i want it is that he basically called me a liar, said it was bollocks, a load of crap and that im talking out my arse.

dont get me wrong hes had a few bikes (in the past) zx9r, tlr1000 and a few others but hasnt had a bike for a few years and obviously not stayed in touch with bike stats.

i just want to prove him wrong and be able to wave my willy about a bit more.

exaclty what he said! make sure he hasn't had dinner just before though

my ZX10 did something like 115 in first, but I was far too busy trying to hold onto the thing and keep the front wheel down to actually care how fast I was going!

The 7 is going on the dyno next week as it seems to struggle to get past maybe 50+ in 1st?

Not that I want to be doing NSL speeds in 1st but it'd be nice for the bike to be able to spread its legs a little and accelerate a little harder like it would have done 10 years ago.

Even my SV does 55 (on the clocks) in first. So that does sound very low for a 750cc IL4!

I'm sure I read in one of the mags the 04-05 10R would hit 123 off the limiter in 1st.

Wouldn't want to try it personally Laughing

just over a 101 in first for the k5 gsxr , r1 and 10r tested at bruntingthorpe, no idea about the cbr1000 of that yr but i wouldnt be suprised. They will all overead on the clocks as always 120+ etc etc... but lets face it over a ton is still plenty Twisted Evil

I even saw 60mph+ on my 400cc VFR400RR NC30's, although they're known for their tall first gear. I believe the other 400's (CBR, GSX-R, ZXR) only done about 40mph.

Quite interesting how differently bikes are geared. An extra 20mph+ in 1st gear on the same capacity bike...

My FZR400 does 50, indicated, bouncing off the limiter in first.

What does a stock 12R do in first?

In addition to Luke's Q, this is probably more directed at Kickstart who has dragged one.

A mate of a mate who has a 12R... he says 170 off the limiter in fourth ..bollocks or truth?

Has full Yoshi/filter/PC3 (does that actually affect it? Embarassed ), stock gearing.

It's possible a power commander could raise the rev limit; but, I'd have thought it would make very little difference.
170 on the clocks in fourth doesn't seem too unreasonable.
As is being discussused; with quite close ratio gearboxes starting at over 100, an even distribution towards an indicated two hundred and something would probably put fourth at around 170.

Later R6 have higher rev limits, so the same ratios would give a higher top speed.

Oh and most 400s are around 45mph in first, in my experience; compared to the 60 of the VFR. Noticeable that on average the VFR lost out by a bout a second on the drag strip.

Luke, will check....normally concentrating on things other than the clocks when in first Laughing

Mr Nice Guy: 170 on clocks in fourth sounds about right.

Sprocket sizes would come under the final drive ratio, which you would need along with the primary drive ratio Thumbs Up

Good boy. Thumbs Up

I would have thought a 12R would have done more in first... Oh well.

175mph in fourth is silly. Laughing Mental speeds...

Yeah i would have thought so to, but the gearing is meant for acceleration in 1st, 2.8 to 60.
2nd is quite short to, 3rd is about 150 then the gears get longer.
Gives a good kick, the wheel was still lifting at 150 Shocked
