how ironic i was just about to post a similar thread

i would like to know why it is that some bikers deliberately look the other way to you when you nod at them. I have a feeling its because of the L plates, but hey i gotta start somewhere. Seems to me we all started the same way noone jumped straight on an r1 and rode into the sunset Wink The majority of bikers nod to me its just those few and its annoys me when it happens. Do any other L plate riders get this treatment?

What is the nod about anyway? i've always taken it as a mark of respect for the shared passion or something to that fashion.

Loads of nodders, wavers, wiggly fingers etc out in Wales at the weekend. Spent much of my ride feeling like the nodding dog in the advert!

Bendy's right, it must be you. Are you a minger? is your bike embarrassing? Razz

I was out this weekend in Wales and I must have seen about 30 odd bikers. I nodded to each one but I only got about 2-3 nods back. I'm on a 600 trail bike so I'm guessing it's not an embarrasing bike, in-fact I used to get more nods on L plates.

One of the main reasons I got into bikes instead of cars (apart from them being cheaper) was because it was like joining some kind of massive club. My Dad was allways telling me how biking was a friendly community and stuff like that but it seems unless I'm on an R1 or something like that then I'm going to be an outcast. Sad

Sorry, ranting Embarassed

Some people just dont nod i dont know but my theory is that their not getting any.

When your on a 125 or L plates for some reason people on bigger bikes look down on you as if you are not worthey of a nod.

Know im on an SV650S i get twice as many nods and personally i always make a point of nodding to 125 and L plate riders and sometimes even give them a wave.
Personally i think this no nodding of small bikes and L plates is wrong as weve all been there and dont we want to get more people in to riding???
And when i was on L plates this used to piss me off!!

Yeah right. Rolling Eyes Nodding also depends on what else you are doing don't forget. if you are concntrating on the road and your controls you don't necessarily get chance to wave at everyone.

Ditto if you're going really fast.

Lots of people got their bikes out last weekend for the first time in months. They were probably too busy trying to remember how the f*** to ride to nod at you.

There was millions of bikers out this weekend up here too when we went for a run. Did I wave or nod to every single one? No, I was too busy looking where I was going.....tbh, I did keep my hand on the throttle but held my fingers up to show some sign of acknowledgement, but I'll be f*cked if I'm going to do that to every biker I seen.

Especially when you're doing 80mph+ Rolling Eyes

That, and to affirm to the other rider that the road ahead is clear of hazards and there are no police about.

I got loads, occasionally a poor biker would come past our convoy of bikes, a few made the effect to nod to *every* bike.

A few waves too! It's wierd, depending what bike you're on/what you're wearing, you get nods of off different genres of people.

I remember my first nod, I was on my TS50X first day of riding doing 31mph down the dual carriage way when a biker nodded at my from the other side. I saw him and thought “Strange, I don’t know you, is there something wrong with the bike”. (I looked behind for flames or smoke)

It happened more and more and I realised it was a good thing.
I wonder how or when the nod started?

I like nodding at other bikers, for me it’s like saying “Yeah mate, I know, its fucking great”

I dont wory too much about lack of nods, occasionally my concentration wanders (or is too focussed) to notice a biker going by till he's practically gone. Or if your behind a car and the angle stops him seeing you till very late... or they just had a bad day.

If someone looks you in the eyes, continues to look at you as you go by after you nod... then maybe they themselves are new to biking (DAS maybe) and dont understand what you mean. Or maybe there just a d*ck.

The 'thanks for letting my by' wave if i move over for a faster bike (on a 600, but still only 33BHP so tend to move aside if a sports comes up behind) is something that every biker i seen does, except one guy.
I see him every morning and every couple of evenings and he NEVER nods or waves or acknowledges me in any way. I am just waiting for some roadworks or an unfilterable traffic jam so i can ask him why.

The funny thing is watching my dad (biking for many a year) driving a car, occasionally theres a slight nod for bikers... force of habit.

Aye I'm new to biking been riding for about a month on my NSR 125 and always wondered why the f**k that passing bike just nodded at me haha makes me think something is wrong with the bike.. I eventually realised that it must be out of respect of sharing the same interest/passion for biking. Laughing
