anyone got any feelings about listening to an i-pod whilst riding their bike, i do a lot of boring miles on the motorway network and thought it would help to pass the time a little, any thoughts???

Tis legal
and alot of people do it, including myself.
Just be careful you dont have it too loud to make you potentially miss things you should spot on the road.

yea i don't see a problem with this (though i don't ride atm) but you can liken it to having a stereo resonably loud in a car, providing you don't go silly with the volume i don't see an issue.

Watch out that you don't try to make your riding in time with thte music, it's timed as it is for a reason.

Can't do it myself, I rode half a mile pulled over and just put plugs back in. Neutral

I'm one of those poeple that needs sensory overload, right now I've got my telly on in the background while watching a video on my other computer monitor and typing this message. If there isn't tonnes going on in my head I find it harder to concentrate... Bizarre but true. Having some music on while I'm riding helps me control that tiny attention deficit part of my brain.

I "tuck" ear phones into my helmet, and turn the volume up tops. So it's kinda speakers under my ear but they don't block out everything else which they would in my ears.

most of the bikers do that, i myself enjoy listening to music while riding a bike. they say it causes distraction, but what i feel when i am listening to the music i like, my riding is even more controlled, coz i like to enjoy the music also. and if i am moving very fast, i fell i have to concentrate on the road and traffic more, which i dont like!

I don't do it. I strongly believe it reduces concentration and awareness of road traffic - especially dangerous early in a bikers career.

I thought I'd have issues with boredom and lack of music before I started riding but I've never had a problem, even on trips of a couple of hundred miles

i also don't need the added incentive to ride like a cunt

Nah, I can't enjoy music on the bike at all. Maybe if I had a big GS or Varadero or suchlike but not on a buzzy 400 sportsbike.

I bought a pair of JVC headphones from morrisons for a fiver and then took off the top crappy plastic bit that goes over your head. I then put the phone bits in a little dibbet exctly where my ears were and put the wire in a convenient little flappy bit at the back. This little setup means i can just take out the wire and plug in my ipod without doing the whole akward faff of earphones.
p/pic is not my helmet btw.

I did something very similar myself a couple of years ago. Was fantastic on a 125. The minute I got a bigger bike engine and wind noise reduced them to totally useless. And the ambient noise was so high I took to wearing earplugs at all time. My headphones are the custom molded in ear type which help reduce external noise so the iPod volume doesn't need to be ear damagingly loud.

Last time this came up I said I didn't do it as it makes me ride too fast, but now I do a lot of long stretches on dual carriageways on my little 125 so that really isn't an issue.

I listen to my headphones every day coming back and forth from college, and its all fun and games until you realise some fit girl is in the car behind, watching you dance around like a twat.

I use my Autocom to play music through because it doesnt hurt your ears like earphones, and they dont fall out.

Music quality is good and you have two sets of volume adjustment (one on the mp3 player, one on the autocom unit).

Listening to music is fine, as long as your sensible with it. Same theory as cars.

Driving around town with your music up so loud you cant hear yourself think is just plain stupid and dangerous, same goes for a bike.

Pretty much yeah. I probably look like a right spaz but it helps eat up the miles.

There is nothing wrong with it.

For those of you that believe it reduces your concentration, surely it doesn't do so anymore than engine/wind noise or reduced hearing capacity as a result of ear plugs.
