Mobile road tax camera (rear facing, so will get bikes) this afternoon on the A2 going into town just before the Kidbrook Elbow.

Good luck out there...

But if you don't have a tax you shouldn't be on the road. It's not like a bloody speed scamera!

I have no sympathy for uninsured untaxed drivers/rider. Throw the book at them, there's no excuse for it.

The truth, insurance more than tax.

But if you're not taxed, you're not insured! So they are both equal!

It was intended simply as a friendly warning to anyone who, for whatever reason, may be riding past without current VED on their bike.

I didn't realise that it would be only "selfish poopypants" who would respond to this thread.

I think he means that it is 'Selfish Poopypants' that are riding without a tax, so why warm them?

If, like me, you ride with a tax and insurance it makes bugger all difference if there are tax cameras on the side of the road so no warning is required! Wink

Yeah, I did kinda get what you meant...

Obviously it wasn't you that I was trying to warn.

Which, of course, rather begs the question: Why did you take the time to reply to something that patently wasn't aimed at you?

I was just showing my disdain for people that do ride without tax and insurance and I how don't think they deserve warning about cameras to catch them! Wink Laughing

If my tax was to run out, but before renewing it was stolen from my garage, you're saying the insurance company wouldn't pay up?

Doesn't necessarily equate to being poorer. In fact they may have more money, due to not spending it on tax and insurance.

I don't think money comes into it for many offenders, they just dont think they need it. Why should I pay for these people through my own insurance premium, and road tax? If someone genuinely cannot afford tax and insurance, they need to get the bus.

I'm not sure how that would be covered. I'm guessing if it was theft from private land then the theft part of your insurance would cover it. If it was stolen from a public road I think your insurance would be null and void.

So people should be allowed to do things they can't afford just because they want to do it?

Isn't that technically known as theft?!

Nobody needs to get the bus...

Hey were all friends here Very Happy

A couple of years back I had a bad experience with an uninsured driver writing my car off. If these cameras stop that happening to someone who can barely afford tax/insurance, but choose to because its the right thing to do, then I hope they catch every one of the selfish poopypants!

Sorry to hear about your uninsured loss - it happened to me also, many years ago - and I can see how that could cloud your judgement on this.

I don't think that they're all selfish poopypants (loving that) though. There are people out there in the real world just doing what they need to get by...

I had to ride to work unisured for a few weeks, until i saved up my premium, I got fined, banned and points. Does that make me a selfish poopypants?

I would have liked to have known I was going to get stopped that day..........

IMHO, yes it does.

You knowingly rode on the road without insurance. That's a really selfish thing to do. Yes, most of the time you can get away with it without a problem.

But just say you caused an accident.. what then? Is it the other persons responsibility to pay for the damage you cause just because you chose to ride without insurance?

How about if it was the other way around? Someone smashes up your pride and joy and it's left for you to buy a new bike?

I'd really love a lot of things in life, but until I've saved enough money for them (or borrowed it!) I know I can't have those things.

If i did cause an accident i would pay out of my own pocket (as and when i could afford too), but the problem was it was either ride to work uninsured or forget about starting the job. There were no buses (night shift job) and a taxi was about £34 a night.
After being unemployed for about 5 months, I took the job and rode to work uninsured. Obviously I paid for that, and after a month or two I found a regular lift so left the bike at home.
Was more nessecity than selfishness i think....
