i'm off to view a private sale GSX-R750 on Wednesday.

Having never bought a private bike i don't know what to check for etc, the only bike i have bought was my teapot which i trusted the dealer and accepted that at a first bike i would write it off so who cares what its like.

what sort of things should i check for? i doubt i'll get a test ride (not turning up with the cash so it'll be wahtever i can see and hear there and then)

short of a different screen, tail tidy and power commander the bike is stock.

honestly any advice would be great.

thanks ian

Check the PCIII is there and is working. The module will do a little scroll thingey when you turn the igition on.

Apart from that it's just check the state of consumables, chain, tyres brake pds etc.

Since it's quite a modern sports bike, I'd also check for signs of track use. Lock wiring, or drilled sump plug bolts. Chipped wheels. A tired chassis on mint plastics.

Also check the that all the panel gaps are uniform and the same colour. Check the engine and frame numbers for tampering. Check stuff like levers, bars and bars for scuffs, these get overlooked when rebuilding a wreck.

Use your common sense really. Also take someone else that knows bikes with you so you don't succumb to shiney bike symdrome and just buy it regardless of any fault.

O and check the tax disc and MOT. Is the V5 in the owners name too....

Thumbs Up

As for the bike, there are no real common issues with them other than the front end brake judder, which seems to affect more 600's than 750's (weird as they are same forks/calipers).

If you ain't getting a test ride you won't be able to see this though.

Have to say though, mine doesn't judder.

Cracking bike, if all looks good go for it, you won't regret it Thumbs Up

If you can't ride it yourself, ask to ride as pillion, at least then you'll get to see it running etc...
