whats bikes for me?

Im looking at buying a bike.
im 15 coming 16 soon.
i want something that looks like a bike bike not a scooter.
it would have to be a 50cc but something nice and quick?
can anyone give me any suggestions

budget 1-1.5 grand (for bike)
and no mechanical background all though i do know people with mechinal backgrounds.
and i just want something that ill be proud to go meet friends with bassically something like a good yamaha or anything like that really.
was looking at yamaha tzr50 but have been advised away from that by a dealer.

Pride and 50cc isn't really something that goes together, however if you get any grief off of friends then you either point out that it is better than what they are riding or that your other ride is their mum.

I suggest you were steered away from the tzr as it is a two stroke and requires regular maintaince. Even if you are capable you are never really sure about the previous owner.

How do you feel about crosser style bikes? I think there are some 50cc crossers out there.

derbi gpr50r, looks awesome, looks much bigger than a 50cc, handles awesome, capable of around 65mph. older model easily affordable.

Yeah its restricted to 31 if restricted, de restrict it, which everyone does.
A Derbi GPR won't go 65mph.

My rs50 does an indicated 60mph.

Probably a real 50-55mph or so.

Looks good imo.

wanted to come up in 1st gear.
Awesome for fast senceless 16year old riding styles. Just keeps on giving, even when the backs sliding out.

Umm no 50cc bike will do 65mph.. unless tuned/borekit.
55mph I would say.
