Well thought id just make up a post about whats going on in my little world of, if you dont like DNB, then step away!
Thought some of you might like to see how things have rolled with my and my 'hobby'.

So i've been MC'ing now for 8 years, i started in house parties, doing little bits for my mates. I simply sounded like a broken record back then, nasty sound to the style, and mostly other peoples lyrics. Just having a laugh...
Got a few mini gigs which were mostly like free for alls for MC's, getting to know people was key, but i was young and obviously had a bit of a cocky attitude to promoters and organisers. Determined to progress i decided to write lyrics that no one would have heard before, find my style, my sound. Adopting a techy stlye which wasnt about how many bars but more about complementing the sound, i slowly made a few lyrics which some of my supporters fire back at me today.

I've met some pretty amazing people & talents over the years and some real nasty ones, if your not into D&B then it is hard to understand why its such a closely knit genre. Unlike house, trance & hardcore for example it still holds a pure thought that anyones game for D&B as long as you respect the movement. It tough to get involved properly. Some gigs ive been stood infront of 5 people, on a £20 mic and hearing it over about £200 worth of sound system. Laughing

I was always told by an MC a few years back, to always give your all, no matter what the crowd or venue. Whether its one person wanting to dance away or one thousand. Just do your thing.
Venues and flyers were small at first, once you get to know a group making moves, offers can come your way.

https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/Killa127/5.jpg

Tracing paper flyers, no colour, probabaly been done on a BBC computer. Sometimes pubs with 4 speakers, a load of locals wondering what the hell that sound is Surprised and some bemused landlords. Confused
But it was all fun and now i wouldnt have changed that for anything.

Radio is cheap on the net, sessions give you practice and much needed feedback from listners. Soul-jah records above a tattoo shop was my base.

https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/Killa127/1.jpg

I met a couple of promoters who enjoyed what i was doing and wanted to hook me up on their nights. Respectable club, new night, new opportunities.

https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/Killa127/6.jpg

I got sets which i could bring my friends to who DJ or MC, get them on the flyers and get something moving. During this time i got 4 of us together and wanted to make more of a group up to get us some promotions. We were just messing about really, one of my mates called himself 'Crowbar' so we called ourselves 'Toolbox sessions' just because we all got together working on things, yeah does seem camp now i look back on it.lol Laughing

The promoter was a knob and we lost the venue, and because of the issues there we werent getting along either. I decided to go solo.
Sometime passed and i had many more gigs, working full on with all the crews in my area and futher afield. The lads i settled with on a monthly night didn't put the work in, a couple more bad gigs and we were out. I did think this flyer was funny.

Tesco, every little helps

The owner called me up and wanted to discuss a possible night, he saw that i knew most of the people down at his place and that i could organise. Could i run it? I thought i'd give it a go...
The night is called Tekniq, the crew was my closet friends and we had the tools for the job. I wanted to show we weren't messing about so i took the time to set us up properly, with a big launch.

Web space, myspace, bookface, the whole lot. Art work created by my best mate.

Chase and status to kick off, big act, big following.
Seriously i was amazed, we all put in the work and on the first night 270 people in the door. What a feeling to get that alot of these people you know and dont and you've put on the event.
See the website above for more pics of this!

Swiftly moving on to present day as i imagine your a bit bored of all this rambling. Ive had some good feedback from the night and from myself. I've MC'd with some big names such as Nosia, Nicky Blackmarket and Pendulum.

This is what all the works for...

More gigs like this please Praying

I don't like D&B at all.

However it was a good read! I could make a surprising amount of comparisons with the comedy scene, shit promoters, shit gigs that make you wonder whether it's actually worth it.

Good to see you're getting somewhere with it and enjoying it!

Good persistence. It's so easy to let life get in the way of one's dreams.

If you ever get the chance to go to Turbulence at Newcastle, go. It is a great night. Thumbs Up

What Shaun said, only related to the live music scene.

BUT - how cool is it and how much of a buzz do you get from standing up infront of people and being the centre of attention?

It doesn't matter if you do stand-up, MC'ing, striptease or play with a band. Its all good for the ego...unless you feck it all up!! Laughing

Keep it up Droog. Thumbs Up
