Thinking of buying CBRF 600 as a second bike

I have been sucesfully riding my NSR 125 for past two years, hoping to do my A2 in November and thiking of a bike to get.

By reading all the reviews about the Honda CBR600F it is pretty positive as a lot people say of its great realibility, some say it can get 100k miles or more and it looks quite good as well.

I think that CBRF NSRs big brother, i had my NSR in stock colours and getting CBRF in same colours would be great

The other reason for getting CBRF as insurance is quite low on those, around 400-450 for a 19year old with an accident and 9 points (don't ask) when something like R6 or GSXR is around 900

So if someone who had experience with those could comment on if its a good choice for a first BIG bike .. ?

Its a very good choice:

Common so parts are easy to source,

Easy to fix

Can and have ridden it for 20+ hours and still felt reasonably ok

Its fast , pointy has excellent brakes

And as siggi says that the capabilities of most if not all sports and sports tourers are so much higher than that of the a good rider you'll never notice the difference , ie a 636 may well be faster, but I can always keep up with Trev on his 636..

Also because its not as track focused and has a fair bit of mid range (for a IL4 6) it can waste the revvier IL4 6s of recent times,

Though you'll have to get used to people saying its a good alrounder....


Its tank is also a lot better for touring purposes , but it borders on boring (if 105bhp can be called boring) since it is well balanced and has few vices...


The only vice I can think of is a weak CCT , and a weak reg/rec on pre 2001 models, and 2005 models have non adjustable forks too.

Its a great choice for a first big bike, yes its a good all rounder as Itchy says

Overall though its a big bike with plenty of power thats very forgiving and reliable. Some models have problems with regulators that you need to watch out for, but they are widely available should you need one.

Mine is great, its a 98 model and still turns heads.

You can take your pick when it comes to the 600, there are lots of used ones out there for all budgets.

All I would say is that from a 125 to 600 is a big step depending on your experience and confidence. Its the type of bike that to begin with is like learning over again but after a while you can start to push it a bit. An overall great stepping stone to a bigger bike again in time.

If you want a CBR600 f then get one mate, they are really good bikes, everyone comments on how reliable they are etc. They have bags of power and handle well compared to other sports 600's.
I was torn between a CBR600 f and a ZX6R, I'd a;ways liked the Ninja but the CBR600 was probably my preferred choice, just happens I got the Ninja as it was too good a deal to turn down.

I've got a CBR600F, the first of the alloy framed, so it's basically the same bike bar plastics and fuel injection that they made until 2006.

Brilliant bike. Can keep up with most stuff on the road.

My CBR600F was my first big bike.

Absolutely loving it

The 99 models and newer are all aluminium frames, the older bike are steel framed. When they changed the bikes in 99, they chaned *everything*. Totally different bike to the 98 model.

2001 they change the nose fairing / headlight, and the bike got FI. I really wanted a 2001 in the black / silver paint scheme, but ended up with a 2000 R/W/B, as it came along at the right price.
