Are they really incapable of handling money? Spent the entire afternoon visiting my local bank, then arguing on the phone within the bank, then coming home and arguing on the phone here too
About 2 months ago I went to upgrade my card to a Debit card and they persuaded me to change my accounts and manage my money better, something I've been meaning to do for a while.
I was advised I could pay a Standing Order into a 'Bills' account every 4 weeks, so as to keep in conjunction with when I get paid (4 weekly).
Now, this Standing Order was set up wrong, for monthly, so when they tried to take the Standing Order there wasn't sufficient funds as it was 4 days before I got paid. So the money couldn't be taken out as there wasn't enough in there, and they slapped a £35 charge for the privilege.
Then the Account it was meant to go into, a company tried taking the money payable by Direct Debit, and because of the SO not coming out, there was insufficient funds and they charged me £15 admin fees to ring me up asking for another form of payment.
Then the bank charged me £35 again, for insufficient funds not being available. Are they taking the fucking piss
So now spent 30 minutes explaining this over and over, to a lovely Indian in a call centre that's not in the UK ( ) and he just couldn't get it into his thick little head that I get paid 4 weekly. Then proceeds to tell me I can only pay SO every week or every month? Hang on, I was advised at the very beginning that I could do so, I wouldn't have bothered with all this if that wasn't the case? I made sure I heard correctly and got him to repeat what he was saying before hanging up politely. (I said goodbye before putting it down)
So now apparently I have to manually ring up every month the day after I get paid, to put this money into the other account, as they simply can't cope with 4 weekly, jesus fucking christ is it that hard?
Fuck you Abbey
Sorry for the rant, I just had to let it out. |

Abbey are a bunch of cunts.
However, did you know that you can't switch bank accounts unless you have a full driving license or passport as a form of identity?
This means you are stuck with the incompetence and idiocy of them until such time you get the required identity.
If I get an Indian call centre when I phone I usually hang up and ring back, otherwise it just ends up in me getting stressed and annoyed because they don't understand! ____________________ Mutley - 1988 Austin Mini City - Blog

It's because you don't need to study and get qualifications to do these types of jobs, which means you don't need to be skilled or demonstrate any level of ability. Therefore, any halfwit can occupy the position, and fuck everything up for everyone else because they're stupid(not all of them obviously). Has anyone noticed how stupid people mess things up for everyone and hinder everyone elses progress, yet they're never affected in any way, shape or form. I think they stick together, like a herd, so they feel wanted and valued among their stupid, average, simpleton counterparts. I have no time for the intellectually challenged |

Not sure this is true (unless its a condition Abbey have.) I changed from HBOS to The Cooperative bank online and needed no ID, they moved everything over, only thing they didn't do was close the old account which is fine, I use it to save (well, thats my intention, if not my practise.)
The Coop's call centres are all UK based, and you can move money easily from one account to another (although HBOS's website is a wee bit clearer to use.) I have Visa debit and an overdraft facility now, were before HBOS wouldn't have pissed on me if I was on fire.
I think as far as banks go, The Cooperative bank is one of the better ones. I haven't heard any horror stories about them in the press and they have an ethical lending policy which sits well on my conciounce. With all that in mind, I'd recommend them.

I have tried to change banks several times, and have had NO luck!
I can't change to a new bank without any identification - even applying on-line I still need to go to my nearest branch and present my documents!
Hence why I'm still with Abbey.

And no banks are not capable of running money , ALL banks by virtue of the system of Fractional reserve banking in effect run bankrupt.
Its a question of leverage, banks generally operate at 60-1 leverage , I believe about 52-1 destroyed Lehmans, any bank that operates at over 100-1 leverage is VERY risky....
This is NOT tipping off stazi internet monitor since there forms no binding contract between myself and other BCF members.
(note tipping off carries a 4 year sentence) .
Now that the government has a big share of almost all the clearning banks in the UK bar Barclays and HSBC, the government are going to be looking into the activities and suspicious actions of people who have deposits in such accounts....
As said the above does not constitute tipping off as I do not have any contractual link or association other than random strangers on an internet forum. so Stazi internet monitors. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. A provisional license is not good enough evidence (unless you are under 21).
Why is this? Surely this is as good as using a full license? ____________________ Mutley - 1988 Austin Mini City - Blog

Sorry for the rant, I just had to let it out. |
Haha I have so many issues with Abbey at the moment.
Did they refund all the fees? if not call the complaint line!
I am heading to Whistler, Canada next week for 6 months of drinking and snowboarding. Now back in April I booked flights with Zoom on my Abbey Visa, Zoom went bust at the end of August so had to call Abbey up and claim back my cash. Called them up woman sent off the query and told me I would be getting a disclaimer form in the post when she said this I remembered my address wasn't up to date as had just moved in with parents for last bit of saving. Not to worry she says just go to the bank tomorrow and change your address.
So I head to the bank on the saturday fill out the address form, confirm with the woman at counter that my Visa dispute hasn't been processed by the relevant team yet so when the form is sent it will go to my new address. Anyway 1 week later I am on the net being a lazy fuck and ordering Dominos Pizza online gets to the payment section puts my details in and it rejects it, so swap round the billing post code to my old address and Voila payment taken.
Call abbey get through to the centre in India where I ask them to confirm my address, yup you guessed it my old feckin address, I kick off royal mention my visa dispute so get transferred to complaint. Woman tells me the daft bitch in the branch had changed my address on all the wrong screens and that it was still showing my old address on the main screen, she also confirms my Visa query has been processed and the disclaimer form sent out in the post to my OLD address complaints woman says she will personally ring Visa Disputes Monday afternoon to notify themt o send form out to correct addy.
As its a Saturday Visa dispute is closed, ring monday as dont trust woman and explain the situation and they say yeah dont worry will send out a new one. Friday comes no form call them, "No record of your call on monday ill arrange a new one to send out" im like but I called in AND your complaints department were supposed to call in! "no record if you dont get the form in 5 days call us back" 5 days later no form. "Ok requested again call back in 5 days". This went on for a month and half till I lodged 3complaints then all of a sudden i get not 1 not 2 not 3 not even 4 dispute form but FIVE dispute form in the space of 2 days for the same issue!
So yeah Ive really enoyed getting that off my chest and yes ABBEY DO SUCK C*CK! |

I don't mean loans to deposits I mean total assets/equity.
HSBC is
20.1
Deutche Bank is
61-1
Barclays is
60-1
I feel that Barclays is in a VERY precarious position even though its my bank, I'm sort of blacklisted from HSBC, and nationwide is the only other choice ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Go in and politely ask if you could do this explaining the phone situation. If they dont then change banks. I say ask politely as the person behind the counter probably gets lots of shit for stuff which isnt their fault. |
Already tried it mate, they said they can't do it 4 weekly. Seems I've been very badly advised. I'm interested in the Cooperative though, judging by the couple of good comments in this topic.
On the note of politeness, I'm not usually one to get irate, but the guy simply wasn't listening to what I was saying, I'm usually very polite as I know how it is to deal with a frustrated customer and doesn't get things done quicker.

No refund yet, by the time my saga on the phone had finished and I'd calmed down, the complains line was shutting in 3 minutes and there lines were closed. So I'll ring back tomorrow (today) and see how far I get. I want them to pay for the £15 charge the company charged me because of there mistake. That might be the most difficult part. I'm usually the kind of person who'd think "Sod it, it's only £15 I'll leave it", but it's the principle of it now. Plus if I leave all the charges it's £85 I'm down due to something I left in their incapable hands!
And that saga is really quite funny, says alot about them |

The online Bank I use lists out all my DD separately from my SO and I can also pay bills, transfer money to members of my family once I've set up their details etc. It's completely idiot proof and all the dates are listed - last taken for DD's, your set-up dates for the SO. Just have to remember to make sure money is there the day BEFORE it's needed - caught me out the first time.
I always worried about the security side of it tbh, but I keep my savings elsewhere (Icelandic ) so I have only everyday amounts in this account to minimise risk (ha, bloody, ha). I'd definitely recommend it for ease of money management ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'
