Hi folks,

My Mille has a DataTool alarm fitted (with Ducati branding?) by a previous owner.

It kills the battery in no-time and the keyfobs aren't very reliable so sometimes I set the alarm off accidentally, which kills the battery again.

All-in-all seems like a nightmare.

Anybody ever removed one? I don't want to open a can of worms here but I'd really like to get rid of the fecker.

Thanks,
Rich

it's best to get it done professionally as it's wired straight into the loom - do it wrong and you may permanently immobilise your engine!
I investigated this when turning a road bike into a track bike - in the end I just left the alarm in as I didn't want to have to pay to get it removed.

Any ideas what the cost of having it done profesionally should be?

I rang one shop up and was quoted "couple of hours, £70+VAT" does that sound reasonable?

Cheaper would be to get a decent battery fitted to the bike as it should not go flat with an alarm going off.

As said above battery seems to be going flat to easy, as for the key fobs the batterys in them could be running low?

The alarm going off shouldn't flatten the battery, the alarm has it's own internal rechargeable battery too. So it sounds like you need a new battery. If you leave the bike for 3 or 4 weeks not ridden they can go flat, reason to use an Optimate or something.

Removal is easy, usually CDI wires are used to immobilise, they are all coloured, you just need to unwrap all the wiring see where it goes, remove the black alarm wiring from it (circuit interrupt relays) and rejoin the original wire ends back together. It's unwrapping and rewrapping the loom that takes time and removal of seat unit panels probably. I temporarily removed the immobiliser side of my Datatool in about 30mins at side of the road, this was spending most of the time trying to fix the keyfob that'd stopped working.

Get an optimate, in the long run having an immobiliser alarm helps with your insurance quotes (well it certainly makes mine cheaper)!

Hi its easy to remove, just follow the black wires from the alarm back to the loom, chances are you'll see a coloured wire soldered into the alarm then back into the loom. Peasy stuff really Smile
