I ordered a headlight from a guy advertising spares on another forum, and he said it was all in good nick etc. Paid him £30 through paypal, and got the headlight through the post. When I recieved it, the bottom mount was snapped off and in the box seperately. I emailed him and he said he can give me details of the postage for me to chase up Royal Mail and persue a claim. I kindly replied saying it wasn't my responsibilty and that he hadn't packed the item sufficiently to protect it, and I requested a refund.
He hasn't replied to this yet(sent that on Friday)and I don't actually know whether I was right in what I was saying, I was just trying to make it easier on myself really.
Anyway, will I have to go to Royal Mail, or shall I claim through Paypal?

As I have found out to my disadvantage paypal will refund your cash without any questions.

I posted out something to a bloke in malta, he claimed it never arrived.

I had proof he had recieved it ( him boasting on a forum ) and proof of postage but paypal believed him and refunded him the full £75.

Claim through paypal.

Not nessasarily true there,
Bought a ecu chip from america, cost only about 20 quid all in, never turned up, i started a dispute, hes gave a postage track showing its left the usa, but now no one can proove where it is as theres no recorded uk postage.
So this dispute has been going on for the last 30 daysish.
