Just wanna say hi to everyone as this is my first post before I begin grovelling for help, so hi!

I was just wondering if anyone knew a suitable replacement petcock/fuel tap for my TZR250, as the one the bike came with does not have an "OFF" position, and also leaks fuel when in the reserve position. Hope someone can help. Cheers!

Hi

Probably worth just trying to rebuild it first. There is an O ring in there which has likely worn out and is probably only a nominal amount new from Yamaha.

All the best

Keith

Thankyou for the prompt reply. Should the bike have an "Off" position on the petcock?

Hi

It is a vacuum tap with an on, res and prime positions. With the engine not running there should be no vacuum, hence in on and res positions no fuel should flow.

All the best

Keith

It appears that fuel is flowing as in the mornings when it's cold it takes about 10-20 min of kick starting to get it to fire up, and when kickstarting without any throttle you can smell fuel. I may purchase an entirely new petcock assembly and see if this helps with this issue. Thanks again.

Hi

Would go for a few quids worth of rebuild first, as I suspect a full tap isn't cheap.

Quick look here shows the fuel tap to be 72 Euros (part number 1kt 24500 01 ). Replacement bits are 47X 24523 00 at 3.50 Euro and 2G2 24534 00 at 3 Euro. Prices from a UK dealer will probably be slightly different but in the same region.

All the best

Keith

Hey Keith,

Called Yammy in Melbourne yesterday and ordered the 2 parts you advised. Waiting on a whole bunch of stuff to arrive and then I'll pretty much take the bike to pieces. I'll let you know how I go with rebuilding the petcock. Thanks again!!
