Just a quick question from a fairly new biker. I got myself an Aprilia rs 125 a little while back and have been wondering if I will look stupid if wearing some leathers on it. Will it be frouned upon wearing them on a bike with L plates and with it being such a low powered bike?

if i were you, i'd wear em, the road still hurts at 40mph if you come off a 125 or a litre sports bike, its for your protection, i wear mine whenever i cock my leg over the cbr, even if its nipping to the shops, you never know what might happen.

pff, I look like the michelin man getting onto my cg125.

If you come off at 45 you come off at 45 with exactly the same problems (apart from the bike/leg crushing thing) whether you've got a 1 litre rocket or a 100cc moped. That's my view, anyway, and that's why I struggle to straighten my arms once I'm dressed[1] Wink

You'd look stupid wearing leathers on the bus, not on a bike.

And yes, I've worn leathers on the bus to go and pick up my bike from the garage before... Embarassed

Stig style!

I'd wear leathers even on my YBR125 if i could, little bit chilly currently for them but i've got some tasteful textiles that look fairly decent and sporty, even though my bike isn't, if i come off i want some skin left.

Will you look stupid in leathers? I don't know.

But you'll look like a complete tool with no flesh on your limbs.

Wear gear. It's irrelevent what others think - they won't be holding your hand during a crash.

Asking for people's opinions on whether, in essense, it's a good thing to want to survive a crash or not, is fairly stupid.

If you fall off at without gear than the roadsurface will shred your skin, before going to work on your flesh and bones.

Roadrash hurts no matter what you fall off, and the painful way it get treated is the same no matter what you fell off as well.

I used to wear a Bike leather, bike boots, body armour, hel,et, bike gloves and - after I roadrashed my knee a little - a pair of draggin jeans.

I was riding a CG125 - did I look rediculous? Possibly.

Did I care? Nope.

I never go out without protective gear anymore. Sometimes I'll wear just my armoured textile jacket and not the trousers but only if I'm going somewhere fairly close. When I commute to work, I wear the full gear, even with fluorescent jacket.

My 400 ain't a massive bike but I'll wear leathers nearly all the time. When I do wear jeans (like today) I don't feel as safe and I worry a lot more.

on the other hand, I'll happily wear tshirt and 3/4s on my zxr750. It works the other way round, people assume bigger bike = full gear all the time. I get frowned upon for no gear. I often will only go out in lid and gloves if I'm just going to work (I literally have to travel .8 of a mile on a busy high street averaging about 5mph) or up t'shop

Do what you want at the end of the day. I would recommend leathers, but maybe think about getting some draggin jeans or similar? It's a lot less hassle than full leathers all the time.

Statistically, most accidents happen within 5 miles of the beginning or end of your journey...

Textiles are much more practical for commuting, waterproof, warmer and at the speeds I do on my 125, they offer about the same protection as leathers. Knox armour wherever there's a pocket for it too. Thumbs Up

Wearing a one piece racing suit maybe a little ott and make you look like a wannabee. Even a two piece matching coloured set could have the same effect.

However, classic black leather jean type with matching jacket always looks good. Or mix leather jeans and textile jacket, or even vice versa.

Whatever, make sure you wear some protection when riding Wink
