hello, this is probably in the wrong forum, oh well.
i have a 2stroke vespa lx50

it is good, but only goes 40mph on flat, and i need a slight bit more speed, i am looking to buy a sports pipe and a set of new rollers, and have found a website which sells both of these:

pipe: https://www.adrenalin-pedstop.co.uk/p/STAGE-6-EXHAUST---PRO-REPLICA--2105.aspx

rollers: https://www.adrenalin-pedstop.co.uk/p/MALOSSI-SCOOTER-RACE-ROLLERS-1-553.aspx

i have 2 questions
1) how much faster would this make my scooter?
2) what weight rollers shall i get? is simply, the lightest the best?

THANKS A LOT for any help Smile

How much is your scooter worth?
You'll hear many on here say just don't bother with tuning smaller engines (like 50cc or 125cc).
Sell up, and with teh £100 it would cost for that exhaust, put that to a 125cc bike. which will get you up to 60mph on most things.

Unless your 16 of course.
Or you've had your CBT for more then 2years...

Most decent 50cc scooter's especially the liquid cooled ones, should do 45-50mph when de-restricted. You can normally get around 5-8mph more if you spend out on a new variator, a decent (read expensive) sports pipe, and a good set up with the right jetting, roller weights, and clutch springs. your probably looking at £200-250 to get the very best out of it though. Even then unless you only ride in the town and city and don't ever need to ride hilly routes, A Roads and fast B'roads, then your going to want more performance sooner than later. In the city a de-restricted 50cc is ideal, but get out of town and into the country or out on busy roads, and you don't have the performance to keep up with traffic and be in a safe position IMO.

Remember if you do tune your 50cc bike, then it will wear the parts faster, and need more maintainence. The drive belts had to be changed every 2500m on my Speedfight, or they were likely to break.

Save the money and buy a 125. Tuning 50's is stupid, £100 for the bits, then the time/money to fit them. That will get you pretty much squat in terms of performance. Spending more money on new carbs/re-jetting, bore kits and general tuning time may get you a tiny bit more. But any other kid on his 125 will thrash you.

I know you're 16 and 30mph is slow. How long until your next birthday? If you can refrain from 'modding' your bike till you're 17 you can sell your bike on and get a 125. If I was getting a 50cc I would steer well clear from any bike that has had any 'performance upgrades' bolted onto it. Which would make it illegal. Especially if they'd been fitted by a 16 year old, regardless whether he was handy with a spanner or not.

You can't just buy any old rollers, usually you'll get rollers with the exhaust which you should fit. The only purpose of the rollers is to keep the engine in the power band as the bike speeds up, putting lighter/heavier rollers in will just mess things up unless it wasn't right in the first place.

The Vespa isn't the quickest of things anyway because the bodypanels are metal, and not crappy plastic like most mopeds.

Plus, 40mph isn't too hideously bad for someone who should technically be limited to 30 anyway... Wink

^ I was thinking the same thing. As he'd no longer be riding a 'moped', so would be illegal.
