Hi

I have got a problem. I am looing for a 125cc bike to use for getting to and from work. The journey is 54 mile's round trip so something that would be reliable and good on fuel would be something i would go for. I have been currently doing the trip on my 92 honda mtx 125 but it is taking it's toll on that bike and proberbly would do with any bike of that size? The main question for me is 2 stroke or 4 stroke??

Must admit that i love 2 stroke's and have looked at dtr's and a aprillia mx125 but i think something like a honda varadro would be ideal?

Any hints or suggestions would be good

many thanks in advance

Reliable, 2 stroke, good on fuel and Aprillia are not going to result in suggestions Mr. Green

A good 4 stroke is where you need to start. What is your budget?

Do your test Frazer and get a Fazer Laughing sorry had to do that!

Not for a daily 54 mile round trip it shouldnt be Smile
Varadero would get my vote.

You considered doing you full test and getting a 500cc commuter?

Never said it was my opinion or choice, preferred the Yamaha SR if I may be honest but that was just the few days pre DAS.

I do 60 miles a day, 4 days a week on a Yamaha YBR 125 and it's been fine. Nearly 7000 miles on the clock now and going strong. Long journeys are good for the engine as it gets fully warmed up and any deposits get burnt off. Just keep things maintained, like the chain lubed and tyre pressures, plus regular servicing at whatever intervals the manufacturer recommends, and you'll be fine. Thumbs Up

if its a 54 mile round trip, either the varadero, or Possibly consider the Suzuki VanVan ( RV125), its got a nice wide comfy seat, chunky tires for a smooth ride.

i think a varadero is what i am going to look for as i have been looking around at different bikes and i personally like the look of varadero and think it would suit my needs. I am planning on doing my test but don't have the cash or time to get that done as i need to get something quickly as i am having to get the bus to work so an hour hour day has turned into a 13 hour day which is not good. Sad

From looking around on the internet the varadero seems to hold it's value well so once i have done my test i could quite easily get myself a bigger bike and not lose out too much £££ from the varadero

CBR125R ... because everyone else will say CG125 Smile

It is as bombproof as the CG but is a bit faster and a bit sportier. It will cost a bit more to run but may be more up you street.. so to speak.

I use an aprilia rs 125 to get to and from work. (30 mile round trip) 4days a week. It's not the most reliable bike in the world and as a 2 stroke it's not the cheapest to run. the CG would be the safe bet. But who wants the safe bet Mr. Green

The VanVan wouldn't be particularly good for a round trip that big, as they're quite slow (from reviews I've read, they struggle even to hit CG speeds).

That remains to be seen. When we start seeing ten... twenty year old CBR125s still going strong, then they'll have claim to the same reliability...

I have had a look around and i am going to go for a varadero as i like the look of it and they seem to hold there value well. Some people at work have said about the cbr125 and the yzf125 but i am not too keen on sports bike's as i find the riding poistion a little cramped as i am quite tall, but that is from riding my friends rs 125 so i may be a little unfair there but i suppose the main thing when looking for a bike is getting one you like the look of as you would never want to ride a bike you don't like the look of would you?

I was doing a 70+ daily round trip on on mixed dual carriageway and twisty roads with my CeeGee before we moved to Lecester

A CG will be oblivious to the miles mounting up. Just needs a check on the chain and tyre pressures once a week and it's all good with a 100+ mpg. Thumbs Up

today i went and bought myself a 2005 xl125v varadero. 6K on the clock in red, looks nice can't wait till fiday till i pick it up from the dealer. Got it for a good price and most of all was extremly impressed with the service and how helpfull the staff where at the shop, and that was even after i had said i would take it.

I am going to proberbly put my MTX125 on flea bay although i am not sure either sell it as a whole or for parts.

MTX was the object of desire of my youth - I'd snatch your hand off for it if I thought my misses wouldn't castrate me for it... Confused
