As was mentioned in a previous thread, Laura (Adamantis), my long suffering other 'alf, managed to drop her bike on Saturday.

It was a low speed, low angle fall, onto the right hand side of the bike.

Cosmetically, it's got off all right- Brake lever snapped, headlight dinked and indicator glass gone.

However, it does appear to have some deeper issues. Regrettably, we've not got a garage so all work is either going to have to be done on the street or in the work car park, which could make life tricky.

Because of the above, we've not had much chance to do anything more than check the really obvious bits- specifically the visible parts. Basically, I'm hoping someone might be able to say, having read the symptoms, that we ought to look at a, b or c and it's unlikely to be x, y or z.

In a nutshell, at high revs the engine sounds like, for want of a better metaphor, a bag of spanners with vibrations to match.

It keeps cutting out (Which might be an idle speed problem, as that's the one thing we've tinkered with, but, as Murphy'd have it, it didn't keep cutting out last night after we tried it), but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it apart from the fact that it does so whilst idling. (Possibly it does it if the throttle is released too quickly, now I think about it)

On half choke, it suddenly loses power once it's got up to temperature.

The gearing also seems odd (which may be unrelated to the accident), in that you find you've changed up to 3rd far sooner than you'd think is necessary.

The oil levels check out and there are no leaks of any kind. Nothing's hanging off, but I think the exhaust is not a CG125 part.

It's tempremental when starting after it cuts out. I actually bump started it once today, and it seemed happier with that. I have to confess that I think the kick lever is actually a bit pony, which may not be helping matters.

That's pretty much the synopsis. It's a '91 BR-J, for the retro look!

It is insured fully comp, if that ever becomes pertinent.

I have a '98 cg, so if swapping parts to eliminate problems is of any use, the option is there.

other than the damage done to the bike being dropped, were the other problems there before?

Only picked the bike up on Saturday morning, but it ran fine. Was a bit of a mare to start, but that was down to the seller flooding it. Once the spark was dried off, started fine, no problems at all. He turned the idle speed up as it cut out at the lower speed, and it ran fine from there.

Before I dropped it it ran -very- quietly, which is why I'm quite so concerned about the noise. The gear levels are about the same (as far as I can tell after half a day of riding it...). Picked it up in Warwick, got it almost as far as Wansford (Peterborough area) with no real issues at all.

To be fair, with the idle still set at a higher rate, I managed to get it back to London from Peterborough on Sunday night, but it didn't sound happy/healthy in the slightest.
