Someone was trying to break into the GFs garage tonight. She's after some way of disabling the bike (GPz305). I always used to take the handlebar clamps off my bikes which makes them nearly impossable to push away. Not so simple on this one because it has clip-on type bars.

Any other suggestions for something quick and easy she could take off which would make a theiving wee bastard give it up as a bad job?

cheap padlock around the drive belt stops the bike from being pushed.

bolt and nut through the disc brake

I know!

Front wheel spindle!

Bike on mainstand, prop front wheel up, bungee brake on to hold wheel in place, remove spindle.

If noone fucks with it it'll slide right back in again. If someone does mess, with any luck it'll land on top of them.

How about leaving it in gear, then taking the clutch lever off?

If engine isn't running you'll just be able to knock it back into neutral and push it. may aswell just leave the kill switch on Cool.

Take off the gear linakge? One bolt, makes the bike unuseable for the opportune thief and easy to put back.

go outside and see how long it takes you to get the bike into neutral with no clutch, may be worth doing if you actually take the gear lever off instead though.

True, but no point in taking the gear lever off on it's own though is there - you'd just push it with the clutch lever in then Razz

Alternative ideas I have.

Some people carry their dogs on their bikes.
So chain rochweiler dog to bike when you leave it.

Attached an exploding dye pack or stink bomb to bike.

If you only want to stop the engine from running.
Remove ignition coil or remove CDI box.

Or you could just make the bike look terrible so no one wants to steal it.
Slash seat cover.
Scratch / scuff all paintwork
Paint it in several different terrible colours to make it worthless.
Put as many dints and bashes as possible in the body work.

padlock round the chain/belt... disc lock ... chain thru rear wheel and up round seat ....

even better is to fit a ground anchor in the garage then lock your bike to that ..

inside the garage put an infra red alarm system, cheap one for about £20 , if you get one that will take an external power supply you can run it off an old car battery which means an uninterrupted supply that will last ages, just charge it up every couple of months for a day...

then put a baby monitor in the garage so you can listen at night back in your house Mr. Green

Well she went out and got a load of padlocks.

The lockup is an old stable. They'd now have to get through two padlocks to open the door. On doing so, they would now come across another two doors, each locked with two padlocks. Motorcycles, push bikes and canoe behind one. Filing cabinets full of paperwork behind the other...

And she's taken the spindle out.

Remove the entire front braking system and disconnect the back one, and then cable-tie the throttle wide open Laughing

On the initial comment; I had to push a bike with no bars (ok, it had them, but they were hanging down to the side) right across an off-road track after crashing (and winding myself quite badly). Wasn't a big problem.

Hi

Simplest way of disabling it that would be easy to put right when she wants to ride the bike would be to just let the tyres down. Or to stop them just pumping them up if they happen to have a tyre pump with them remove the valve cores as well.

All the best

Keith

In the end it depends who and why it's being nicked.
My KLR got stolen by them pushing it in gear (broken clutch lever and gear lever splines gone) a couple of hundred meters to a local car park.

They tried to hot wire it, but it didn't even start properly on the button at the time, so it was found in the car park the next day.

Well, yes. But I would rather try to see her through her restriction period on it if we can.

You can't rely on it to throw a rod through the crankcase at exactly the right time.

You could also disconnect the HT leads and ignition coil. While they could always just connect them back up again, most thieves wouldn't think of that.

It's good, but by the time they find that out, they have already stolen it.
