i bought an item that i am not happy with as i didn't fully understand the implications of its use.

problem is the item came packed on a peice of cardboard with plastic sleaving glued over the top so i had to break the packaging to open it.

can i return it for my money back? or am i now stuck with it?

below is the returns policy from their website

Can I return a product if I am not happy with it?

Maplin Electronics offer a fourteen day money back policy. To return a product you will need to contact us to receive a returns number. Certain product categories by their nature are exempt from the 14 day return policy, for example software, cut cable, built kits and consumables.

Maplin Electronics will not accept the return of goods under the 14 day return policy, if the manufacturers or suppliers warranty or registration is invoked. We will deem such registration as acceptance of the goods.

Maplin Electronics must receive all returns within 14 days of the returns number being issued and any goods received after this period will be dealt with on an individual basis.

The customer must take all reasonable care to ensure that all returned items be suitably packaged and you must provide a proof of purchase.

If any goods are returned to Maplin outside of the 14 day money back period within a reasonable period Maplin reserves the right to levy a handling charge of up to 20% of the invoice value of the goods returned. You must also bear all the costs of returning any goods to Maplin and provide a proof of delivery.

PLEASE NOTE: MAPLIN RESERVE THE RIGHT TO INSPECT GOODS AT THE NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTRE PRIOR TO ISSUING CREDIT FOR GOODS.

I've returned quite a few things to Maplins, never had a problem. As long as you've got the receipt, you should be OK.

Keith, you're approaching that slippery slope from which there is no return Laughing

On the topic of Maplins returns, I've returned a few things and never had a problem. Most noteable being one of those 12v tyre pumps, unboxed it and tried it on the car in the carpark outside, managed to raise the pressure by about 2psi in 5minutes, burnt my finger on the white hot metal hose joint, reboxed it and took it back in for a refund, no hassle.

Also had no problem returning stuff to Maplin, simply because it wasn't what I thought it was or I didn't want it or whatever. They should be okay. Thumbs Up
