Well, my dad just gave me the money to go and buy the Halfords pro set and I'm very impressed with it. Anyway he's getting on a bit (Turned 58 this year) but still mad keen about bikes and has just got himself an 07 Yamaha FZ6.
Now, this is the sportiest bike he's ever ridden and he's only just had the first service. I got a text the day after saying FUCK! I shat my pants on the way to work this morning! Needless to say, I found it hilarious (albeit a small exaggeration) as I've rideen 6RRs, GSXRs and R6s and I'm quite a confident, reasonably paced rider.
So my point is, I want to get him a present for Christmas that's going to affect the way he rides and improves him a bit. The obvious solution is a track day but he doesn't have any leathers and the California Superbike School isn't cheap when it's run in Dubai either. So I'm thinking about books or DVDs really, I've heard about Keith Code but not much else really. Anyone else got any others?
I need to spend £90ish if possible as that what he's just paid for my present I realise it'll be more than one item obviously so the more you suggest the better. Karma to all who help of course ____________________ wizzzard wrote: Imagine God just stopping by, tidying your front room up and then quietly letting himself out again. My Ex's family got me a few goods one year. Consisted of lots of little things like:
Tyre pressure checker on a keyring
Tinted inserts for my visor
Visor Cleaner
Chain Lube
Bike de-greaser
Some winter gloves for riding
A balaclava
Was a few more bits but I can't remember now, all small bits that will be useful but adds up in the end to what you want to spend |

I'd say either some advanced road training, or Keith Codes 'Twist of the wrist' book |

Graham, balaclava and winter gloves are hardly things you need in a country where the lowest temperature is about 18 degrees at night in the middle of winter
Hollis, you're weird
Beatnck, no such thing out in Dubai unfortunately but if he was back here I could do something like that but he's not back till next summer...thanks though
Ant, wicked idea but who would review them?
Keep 'em coming guys ____________________ wizzzard wrote: Imagine God just stopping by, tidying your front room up and then quietly letting himself out again. Statisticly more likely to happen than Korn being on here. |

My Dad rides a Hornet, comparable with an FZ6.
He continues to remind me that it's the bike that does everything he wants a bike to, it's certainly the most accomplished piece of machinery he's every ridden, being a born again biker who's pinacle of motorcycle technology in his prime was either a Z1000 or CBX.
He knows my reactions and road craft are far more accustomed and probably more experienced to modern day roads, but if I were to buy him advanced tuition of any kind, it would feel, probably for me and him, as though I was patronising the old bastard.
Instead, I choose to buy him bits that he finds useful for his bike, or things that he's taken particular interest in. Last year, I bought him a 17 inch Blade wheel of all things, so he could machine his own spacers (at work, which he enjoys doing) for, the year prior to that I got him the Shoei flip lid he had his eye on... |
