Biker killed in police collision

A male motorcyclist has been killed in a collision with a police vehicle in Carmarthenshire, officers have said.
The crash happened at around 2335 GMT on Betws Road in Ammanford.
The Welsh Ambulance Service said the man was 39 and was pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin were still being contacted said police.
Dyfed Powys Police appealed for witnesses and said the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) had been informed.

I always said the Police drove eratically when answering a call, yes they may need to get to the location ASAP but not if it kills someone in the process.

Crying or Very sad always sad to hear news lke that, dosnt just happen to joe public tho, last friday in sheffield a police motorcyclist was killed whilst in pursuit, a bin wagon reversed out on him.

Moving too fast for the conditions essentially. Unfortunately it's required when in pursuit or attending a shout which is why they have the siren and alarm to warn people.

well i don't know how it exactly happened but it was at 4pm friday, which is pretty much rush hour, the road the cop was on is a duel c/way that ends just before the site of the accident and theres a little lane to the left, now maybe he cut the lane (as i have done cos of right turning traffic) but then that ment the bin wagon reversed out onto a main road Confused ,so sorry my info is poo on how Embarassed

what shocked me was the bin men still working! if you need the council on a friday you have no chance after 1pm

I'd have thought so. They have a number of big orange flashing lights and stick out a mile away. Even when they're parked down a back alley you can spot the orange strobing off surrounding buildings.

Interestingly Roadcraft - The police rider's handbook to better motorcycling offers the following advice:

There are 'black boxes' in police cars. They usually show speed, breaking, position of steering, blue lights and siren usage etc and it will be used to investigate.

Doesn't bring back the poor biker, thoughts with the family and friends Sad

Its actually just GPS built into the mobile car sets. Not all forces have them activated for cost reasons.

Tragic news. Condolences to the family and all effected.

There are plenty of things I have choosen to do that have turned out to have been the wrong thing at the time, it's just none of them have been fatal yet.

Irrelevant, my point is that he, at that time most likely planned and was supposed to be, or I'm sure he would of been elsewhere. Therefore jumping to the conclusion that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time isn't fair comment.

When I had my accident in January, where I hit a car's rear end at just under 30mph, every nurse told me I was lucky to have hobbled away/lived, I didn't see that as wrong place/wrong time because although randomly, I'd panned to go that way on that day, even though I hadn't for weeks before or since. If this makes no sense to you then I completely give up, and cannot be bothered debating it further.
