Just sold my 1930 500cc OHV Ariel.
I am £3500 better off but have a hole in my heart.

Or Wal like most people do.

Was money the motivation - or had you just had your time with it?

I'm sure you sold it to a decent owner, and that you will see it many times again!

Hi Wal, that is a smart bike I am sure you will miss it.

Could I ask you what the trumpet shape thing is fixed to the front of the bike near the headlamp? I thought it may be an air raid siren if the bike was used during the war.

I think I'd rather have sold a kidney, or my first born than get rid of something like that! Must've hurt...

I have had 9 years of pleasure from that bike, I bought it as a heap of rust and took 18 months and an awful lot of cash to get it on the road. I have done 12000 miles on her one year, 300 miles in a day, 400 miles in a weekend. We have been off road together and done some of the steepest passes in the country. I have ridden her in the middle of nowhere for no reason other than to ride and have taken her through the centre of Brum with a pillion during the rush hour.
The past year of so I have spent less time on her and this year only managed 100 miles. She deserves better than that and the guy I sold her on to will ride her a lot. He is a fellow Ariel Owners Club member I know well, he also has sons that ride so the future of UY 7507 seems safe for the next half century.
The horn is a "Twintone Klaxonette" and has two buttons to operate the horn and the klaxon, I think it was made for a boat but I got it cheap on Ebay.
As for the bike's history... The AOMCC have all the factory records and have been a help in tracing her history ( She still has the same frame, engine and gearbox she left the factory with in 1930) a trip to the Worcester Records Office found her original registration and the owners name and village. A quick Google found George Reeves of Flanbury to be on the WW1 war memorial in that village (The memorial lists those that served and survived the war as well as the fallen)

Amazing machine, what's it like to ride compared to a modern bike?

I think I saw one of these at a petrol station in Gorgie in Edinburgh a while back, wasn't you was it?
