I recently used the red version, which i purchased from ebay because of the price.

I have had no problems so far, and can not notice any difference from the old tokico pads.

Go for it, hell of a price difference.

Thumbs Up

I've heard too many horror stories about dodgy pads being sold on eBay, so personally I wouldn't risk it.

I've tried the red ones (in HH) on my bandit 4, I thought they lacked bite and opted for EBC HH instead

I've got the red ones in my GSX and so far they've held up fine.

However, after reading the stories, i'm not gonna get them again.

Stick to the named trusted brands that you know. It's not worth risking poor brakes to save a few quid. Thumbs Up

There are plenty of EBC horror stories lurking about to. Try them, if during the bedding in process they fell like they arn't up to the job, change them and count it as a lesson learnt.

Personally, I tend to stick with known setups (which tend to be based on using Ferodo pads most of the time)

Thumbs Down From me, I have a set on mine at the moment and they are down to metal on the front after less than 5000 miles, mine didn't come in packaging like the two in your picture though, they looked totaly different, came from a shop though, not ebay.

Just bought some to stick on the CB-1, cant remember the packet colour, but they were quoted as sintered AD type ceramic carbon.

Twas the price that attracted me also. Thumbs Up

Wemoto have sold them for years, so its not as if they are a dodgy make.

Its funny, I personally don't like EBC HH ... I find they are good to start with, but soon glaze over and then feel totally wooden ... they also seem to eat discs/score them to feck!! Shocked

So I am not sure 'named brands' are always FTW!! Wink

But some cheap brands don't come up trumps either ...

I tried some Armstrong green pads from ebay and just felt they lacked performance. They worked, just never gave me the feeling they would pull me up in a hurry ...

So basically you can get good and bad stories about known and lesser known brands and from different people ... but I sure as hell am not going to pay twice the price for some EBC HH that I already know I don't like!

All brake pads are a trade off between pad longevity and disc longevity.

The harder the brake pad the more your disc wears. The Fren pads are softer than EBC equivalents so don't tend to last as long but your discs will last a hell of a lot longer. When you consider the Fren HH pads also cost as little as half the price of EBC pads yet last more than half as long the price/quality/disc life trade off makes them rather good.

The main reason they have become the best selling pad in the UK is pretty much down to the price and that they are freely available on Ebay. That they are a good pad as well also helps.

I've never had a single pad needing to be returned due to falling apart (or any other reason). This may well happen in time as it has happened with others such as Carbon Lorraine and EBC but both of these manufacturers have been around for years so of course problems will occur.

I've used gold fren for years on bikes ranging from 50cc up to 1200cc and would not hesitate to buy them again.

I've only ever had one problem and that was down to fitting them to a mid 80's bike, sometimes they are just not compatible, then again, I had the same problem with other pads on the same bike.

Need new pad for the rear, but don't know what pads to go with?

The EBC pads I have in there at the moment have the wear rate of a wax crayon, and need to be regularly cleaned else they lose all their bite.

I assume Nisin make pads for their own calipers, but where to buy from? My garage only uses EBC as they say they're better / cheaper than OEM, but I disagree. The EBC pads used to have good bite, but they glaze over waaaay too easily.

I see Brembo make their own pads (and should be good, as they are a top name brand), but where the hell would I buy them from?

I refuse to use eBay for brake pads, as too many horror stories about knock-off pads falling apart.

Oh I don't fucking know Laughing

Don't know what the standard pads are made out of, but surely HH pads are meant to give more bite / stopping power?

I can't even remember what my standard discs and pads felt like compare to the EBC stuff I'm using now.

Having said that, David Silvers want £20 for a set of rear pads, and £16 for a set of pads per front caliper.

https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_11698/
https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_11697/

Seems quit pricey to me, although I dunno what I should b paying. Does that sound about right for a set of pads? Bearing in mind that "genuine honda" is always going to be at the higher end of the price range...

I pay about £12 for a set of Gold Fren so £24 to change the front pads. I had problems with my XV having pretty poor braking. Changed to OEM and they work perfectly.

Was that after the thread where I suggested it?

Trying to work out if it's cost effective to continue using OEM on the work bike . I would like to, they have lasted 14k so far but at £80 a set it's a bit steep.

Absolutely. I noticed the gold frens were glazed so I sanded them and rode about for a bit. Checked them again and they were glazed /polished. I had a few problems sourcing the OEM pads but a guy on a US forum sent me a set of original pads. All seems to work well although I did change the fork springs at the same time.

Just bought some OEM pads for my bike... Will see what difference they make.

The EBC HH pads i have on the front seem to be rather "polished" with quite alot of scoring and a few gouges too. Sanding them does seem to help with the amount of bite they give, but quickly deteriorates after a short amount of time.

The rear pads (dunno if they are ebc or not, they dont look like the same material as the HHs.) just seem to wear really fast and get completely shit up with brake dust. Spraying them with brake cleaner and then sanding helps massively, but again, they deteriorate very quickly. Wasn't sure if it was the soap that i use to clean the rear wheel that does it, as when spraying it off with th hole, the rear brake usually gets covere in it. Any thought? (For reference, it's SDoc100 cleaner, doesn't have any warnings about "keep away from brakes").
