Bike cleaning and winter protection

Hey everyone. I know this has probably been asked to death, but I can't really find any topics related to bike cleaning and preparing it for winter (im crap at using the search function).

So does anyone have any tips,methods for washing/cleaning a dirty bike? Any reccomended products, things to do (and things to avoid doing). My bike seems to get dirty really easily.

Also, after cleaning, any info you can give me on winter preparing it. is it just a case of coating everything with WD40? (I've got a can of GT85).

funny that craig, I used to use MrSheen for years on my bike (mountain bike) as I'd use it everyday regardless of weather. I'll get myself some brushes for cleaning, and some washable rags for drying.
Is GT85 okay to use instead of ACF50?

I'm lucky to have an outside hose at work.

I rinse it down every day and spray the scotoiler preventative stuff on it.

At the weekends I wash it at home using car shampoo in v hot water and sometimes with karcher (at a distance). After its dry i'll go all over the bike with rags and WD40.

Its a bloody pain though. Why can my 8 year old car never rust.

^ cool. Where would be the places to spray? Sorry if it seems like a stupid question. I'm an absolute n00b when it comes to bikes. I only got my bike on monday! no owners manual, so i dont even know when the choke or reserve tank tap is!
